Once the VC money runs out it will be less of an issue

In the meantime we are screwed

Reddit has a sense of community that is simply not on Lemmy due to its small size

Can we stop having security issues for at least a week?

Thanks

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 5 points 21 hours ago

Debian pushes out security updates within hours when it is severe. Older packages doesnt mean unsupported

I'm not sure what the big deal is. They were even curious enough to stop at a port instead of immediately sinking

If you like being compromised then yes

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 23 points 1 day ago

It shouldn't as it has solid thermal management

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

It is still massively bloated

The C++ spec is absolutely massive. Nothing says elegant like a million different ways to do something.

Python works pretty well and doesn't have to much overhead. Sure it doesn't have the same performance as C/C++ or Rust but most of the time you don't need millisecond level code.

That only covers mainstream web browsers

Any apps that rely on https will be vulnerable

The emudhra certificate problem means that people can potentially man in the middle https. Make sure you update everything including apps like termux

To test if impacted visit or curl this site: https://dv-g3b-emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com/

With free software you can validate the code quality and tweak and share code as you wish. With AI slop becoming more prevalent this means choosing quality software is much easier. This is especially true given that many proprietary software companies are switching to AI which will harm them in the long run.

In short, free software is human focused. It doesn't have economic incentives for the most part so it will always be as good as the community around it.
