I'm not goated enough to know about that, also I've never used the pico 2, but I'll keep an eye out. I get the feeling that they're just trying to push RISC-V forward which is cool of them. Or maybe there are some niche applications that need it?

I had trouble finding a video tutorial on the manual setup process in linux for the C SDK, so I made a short video on it, as well as how I have the build environment set up in a shell script. I know theres a script for raspi os but idk how well it works for linux. (I had a different post with the same thing but I'm reposting to make peertube the main video, deleting the old post in a sec) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8DmkVY9L9U

I'm aggregating some tutorials, libraries, and parts for the raspberry pi pico. I'm in the process of making a chiptune tracker on the pi pico and as I've been researching I've gathered a lot of links and stuff. So I figured I'd compile it into a public thread. Also its just a nice format to be able to go through myself. if someone could lmk if they know something similar that already exists that would be awesome & could potentially merge resources with it

sure, but everyone will drop something once or twice. and if you're someone who wants to get 5+ years out of the laptop, and potentially have it last beyond your own use to be used second hand, something that won't break when dropped would be pretty nice. I really appreciate my T530 which I bought 2-3 years ago, when it was already a 10 year old machine. sure the thinkpads are a bit overkill, but a sturdier plastic frame would help. also, to be honest, i enjoy the aestethic

is this a meme

im interested in that too but ill probably end up going with the zero just cause raspberry pi seems a little more established. so many cool things to choose from!

[-] paper_mint@retrolemmy.com 1 points 4 months ago

The zero is a little cheaper, and I wanted to try making games that would run on it and eventually make a game console thing out of it. Part of the challenge is the lower spec i guess. If it's got more power than the n64 its good enough for me!

[-] paper_mint@retrolemmy.com 1 points 4 months ago

Yeah, thats sorta what I figured. It is marginally cheaper, and hopefully it won't be as affected by the current market? either way it'll probably be fun to play around with and similar enough to the zero 2W that i could experiment with it for a bit and switch over when the 2W comes back in stock. I certainly dont need the processing power, I basically just wanted to load some minimal linux OS, and try to play low spec games on it. thanks for the heads up

I've been wanting to get a Zero 2 but they're basically nonexistent. How likely do we think the Zero 1 to stay in supply? And are they worth getting or should I hold out for the Zero 2 to return? I kinda want to use it in a project but I don't want em to go dead before I can make a couple of units. thoughts?

I hadn't thought of that, I mean it's not like I have a 3D printer or know how to do that but it would be awesome if people started doing third party shells. Could at least make the design and have one printed somewhere I guess edit: oh, the keyboard might be tough though. might be weird to have plastic shell with aluminum keypad

I'm curious how many people would prefer a more durable/thinkpad-like framework laptop. I get they're trying to go for the more popular/mainstream light/thin/pretty design but man I still like using my T530 over my FW13. I've seen posts like "set my bag down a little too fast and bent/had to replace my hinge" and whatever. i still think the Framework is the best laptop currently being made and would still recommend it and do recommend it to my friends. Obviously some people like the weight and see it as worth the trade-off. but dang i wish there were a beefier one, I dont think we're going to see "framework on the international space station" posts at this rate.
