The union said in its letter that its labor contracts enshrine the right to a safe workplace, and that the presence of ICE or U.S. Border Patrol agents inside or in the immediate vicinity of properties constitutes “unusually dangerous conditions” that trigger employees’ right to refuse to work. The contracts also prohibit employers from allowing immigration agents onto their properties without a warrant, the letter said.

“We want to be clear,” the letter said. “If ICE or similar enforcement agents are present at or near your property, workers must be allowed to leave or refuse to report to work without reprisal.”

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, who is a leading Republican candidate for governor, has seized more than 650,000 ballots from last November’s election and is investigating whether they were fraudulently counted.

“This investigation is simple: Physically count the ballots and compare that result with the total votes recorded,” Bianco said at a news conference Friday.

"The unusual probe drew a sharp rebuke from California Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta, who said in a statement Friday that it is “unprecedented in both scope and scale” and appears “not to be based on facts or evidence.”

“There is no indication, anywhere in the United States, of widespread voter fraud,” Bonta said. “Counts, recounts, hand counts, audits, and court cases all support this.”

In a Feb. 16 statement, the LAPD states it’s unlawful for minors under 18 to be in public places, streets, or amusement spots during school hours. Exceptions include emergencies or being with a parent. The department cited state education code requiring that children between the ages of 6 and 18 “must attend a full-time public day school for the full designated day.”

[…]

A day later, Bill Essayli, the first assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, condemned the walkouts in a post on X, saying, “The only thing they will accomplish is ensuring violent agitators will be criminally prosecuted, juveniles included.” Essayli also posted photos of youth he said were sought in connection with a “violent attack on [Federal Protective Service] at our downtown Los Angeles property.”

It’s an absolutely wild misuse of the criminal justice system to target children exercising their constitutional rights after having their community, friends, and possibly family members terrorized or kidnapped by federal agents. I can’t imagine making those kinds of statements and not immediately wanting to crawl in a hole and die of shame.

The Issue

Photo Description: Masked agent walking out of the Residence Inn on 600 Queensway Dr, Long Beach, CA 90802

We call on Hilton and Marriott Residence Inn to immediately end all relationships that allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to stay, organize, or operate out of their hotels.

Hotels should be places of safety and rest—not staging grounds for immigration enforcement that terrorizes neighborhoods and tears families apart. By housing ICE agents, these corporations are contributing to fear, surveillance, and the detention of thousands of people, including parents, workers, and community members.

Just recently, the Hilton on 701 W Ocean Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90831, the very same hotel where border patrol is staying, hosted a toy drive organized for a non-profit that benefits local marginalized families. One of the families that received the invitation happened to be a family whose father was kidnapped in a brutal raid by the very same agency that is staying at this hotel. We do not believe that the Hilton was transparent with the risk of hosting events for marginalized communities at their hotel.

When ICE is embedded in residential hotel spaces, entire neighborhoods are destabilized. Families are forced to live in constant fear, children are traumatized, and communities lose their sense of safety. School enrollment is at an all-time low due to the precense of ICE in our communities. Hilton and Marriott Residence Inn are not neutral actors in this harm—they profit while families suffer.

This is not hospitality. This is complicity.

Our Demands We demand that Hilton and Marriott Residence Inn:

End all contracts and arrangements that allow ICE or related agencies to use their hotels
Adopt a clear, public non-cooperation policy with immigration enforcement
Provide transparency about past and current relationships with ICE
Commit to keeping hotel properties safe for guests and surrounding communities

CALL TO ACTION
Until these demands are met, we call for a nationwide boycott of all Hilton and Marriott Residence Inn properties. We urge travelers, organizations, unions, and cities to refuse business with companies that enable harm to our communities.

Our neighborhoods are not staging grounds. Our families are not collateral damage.

Sign this petition. Share it. Boycott until accountability is achieved

✍️ PETITION ✍️ When the winds came and the fires burned our community to the ground this past January, we experienced a disaster on a scale we never could have imagined. Now, we are experiencing a second disaster: families are not getting the financial resources they need to stay on their land in Altadena and rebuild. We are witnessing the historic Black community of West Altadena being pushed out. Many of us are still paying mortgage payments on houses that are no longer standing. Many of us don’t have insurance or the insurance isn’t paying. Some of us are even facing foreclosure. So many of us are still figuring out where the money to rebuild is going to come, or how to hang on in the interim - debating whether we can hold out until we get our settlement money from Southern California Edison, which could be a few years away. Gov. Newsome passed AB 238 in September, offering up to a year of mortgage forbearance — but it’s not enough. It relies on homeowners to opt in, and excludes many elderly and displaced residents. With the outstanding cases against SoCal Edison not expected to resolve until 2027, that’s too little, too late. That's why we are asking Gov. Newsom to Freeze All Fire-Related Foreclosures in Altadena — Keep Altadena Families On Their Land! https://www.change.org/p/stop-the-foreclosures-call-for-immediate-moratorium-on-altadena-foreclosures
