I just want to say how amazing this community is. I'm incredibly grateful to everyone for their support during this difficult time โค๏ธ

Honestly the woolies bag is the most underrated cat toy on the planet.

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago

Ah Gibson, you grace us with your presence, dignified as ever.

You got this bro, you are awesome! You are doing great! ๐Ÿ’œ

I see your cat in bag and offer you cat in pot. And we've got a good bunch here.

An adjacent manager found out about my new role and rang me earlier with a heartfelt congratulations.

This means one of two things (or both)

My old boss wasn't well liked.

I am very liked.

The amount of support I've received today from all over the organisation made me tear up nearly.

Is this what it feels like to be human?

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 8 points 5 months ago (1 children)

so many hugs ๐Ÿ˜ฝ

This is how it's meant to be. It's nice to feel appreciated and supported and liked .

Dunno about 'human', but this is def how it feels to be the hero. Enjoy it while it lasts, which will not be long. I speak from experience here. Once you start doing things the way they should be done, expect a backlash.

It shouldn't be a super power to feel supported but unfortunately it is.... The great thing is that you now know how it feels, you can be a spreader of it and watch people bloom.๐Ÿ’

G'day mates I'm back and I'm braindead. Happy to say immigration/e-gates were much less of a shit show than late last year even though there were still a couple of kiosks out of action. Seems like all airports are moving primarily towards facial recognition, had so many photos taken

[โ€“] Duenan@aussie.zone 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Welcome back Kitten!

Time for you to go home and relax now! Don't forget to rug up, it's been cold here lately.

We got a royal welcoming committee in Donald. I think the entire town was here to greet us! All the school kids were lined up waving to us, all the industrial business we passed had nobody working - everybody was at the fence waving to us. Every level crossing there were 5-10 people waving

I've been on many heritage trains, but I've never had a reception quite like that

I'm not sure anyone told them we were running 50 minutes late and our 30-40 min stop was going to turn into a 10 min one though, so I think we disappointed them a little :(

They all lined up to wave is goodbye ๐Ÿฅบ

I was offered the role. Then I asked if my expected pay had been considered, that it was more than my current pay. I was told it hadn't been, but that they'd get back to me shortly. Got back to me: "look I spoke to the big boss, and he says now your current role and the one Ur going for are considered equal (my current role used be considered lesser), your pay is appropriate and would remain the same. I told them I would consider that over the long weekend.

Also just learned that ANOTHER person quit in the role I'm going for, bringing the total to four open positions, and as far as I know, I'm the only internal applicant. The fuckers have the gall to not offer me anything.

[โ€“] dumblederp@aussie.zone 9 points 5 months ago

So the new tip is to put the new job on your resume and start applying for similar roles with better pay.

A colleague why had Covid last week is back in the office and visibly not recovered. We Can either take sick day, come into office or wfh AND make up an extra office day. Meanwhile I hope my mask is doing its job.. I did have to remove it briefly to drink water though.

I did the pantry shop. Cost a bit more than expected but have quite a few meals now ready to go as backup!

Wow. It seems all the other social sites are in a competition for who can become the worst the fastest. Reddit has jumped on the selling data to AI bandwagon, as has Facebook and Instagram. Tumblr is still banning trans women while leaving up nonconsensual deepfake nudes and is also now crawling with minors. Twitter is uh... Twitter. Sorry, X.

Cursing my shitty body and dodgy area. Never have I wished to touch grass more.

I think I have covid - one of my coworkers came in with it, tested positive that evening, and now I'm fluey.

My partner is casual.

What the fuck do we do here? Are we just expected to take the financial hit in a COL crisis?

Never realised how bad it is not having my own washing machine until nowโ€”testing positive a week later. I ran out of towels near the start as I was due for a wash and I just ran out of clean clothes then.

My only symptom now is reduced smell and I feel fine in every other respect, but I'm not gonna be that person who rocks up to the laundromat covid positiveโ€”it can wait (hopefully).

[โ€“] Nath@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I never thought until now how much of a hassle lockdowns would have been to people who didn't have a laundry. How did you even cope with that?

For the first time in over 30 years, a Mildura bound train has left from Maryborough! We're running about 40 minutes late because a freight train was also running 40 minutes late

Transiting in HKG with another hour to kill. Just want to sleeeep

E: I watched Fallen Leaves on the way here and am glad I finally gave it a go after finding previous Kaurismรคki films too bleak. This one was just right. On the way to HKG I had watched Marcel the Shell with Shoes on which was incredibly cute and heartwarming but man that Dean was a total dick imo

[โ€“] Baku@aussie.zone 8 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Soooo our train has stopped at woomelang, but it stopped after the crossing signal on a little temporary platform thing. It's been sitting here for 30 minutes triggering the level crossing and we still have another half hour here.... Nobody's moving it, it's just idling on the platform setting off the crossing alarms.

There's no barriers, but people are really confused about what they're meant to do

So we're in the middle of a field and our loco stalled...

I have 2 bars of reception and 3 fully charged power banks so I'll be right. Could be worse

We've just started moving again, but that seems like a bad omen...

I moved around a lot growing up, and had some formative years in the UK. I love the winter, I love the cold, I love the early dark - as it reminds me of that time. Having said that, I also love daylight saving...ha

Anyone here got both a manual and auto in the house? Does it ever get easier? We're about 2-3 months in of having both and I gotta be honest, 2 seems to be 1 more than I can count. I'm fine after a day or 2 in 1, but each time I jump in the other after a little while it is ROUGH.
