We can't let you bring this bottle of "water" on the plane because it me an explosive...so I'm just gonna to throw it into this garbage can full of all the other potential explosives in the most densely packed area of the airport...
A tiny container of "explosive" liquid like that would barely do any damage in the trashcan. Worst case it would injure a few people.
The same explosion at 30,000 in the plane would be catastrophic.
I get TSA is a lot of bullshit, but there is no really good solution for this except some hyper rapid liquid tester.
Which just isn't worth it dump it out and refill it past the gate.

It depends on the plastic and the acid involved.
Most plastics are unreactive with most acids. Sometimes, like with Hydrofluoric acid, it must be stored in plastic, because it can dissolve glass.

the acids used in brewery for sanitization can wreck metals too. we had some plated brass fittings that got mixed in with the stainless stuff and the acid water turned green and the brass was exposed. some other formerly shiny parts turned grey and chalky and very soft. Some places love their brass but I just want everything to be stainless so I can leave it soaking in sani for as lonng as I'm too lazy to deal with it which is forever.

No idea but probably not enough to be good enough for food safety inspectors, or my own fear of any kind of microbe, contaminant, or filth.

TSA is security theater that fails over 90% of real-world tests. It just wastes a ton of time, jet fuel, and people's energy who could be doing jobs that actually help others or even just hanging out because that would literally be a more productive use of their time.
Apparently new x-ray systems are now able to differentiate the density of water from other more dangerous chemicals, which has made so some airport customs do in fact allow water bottles through.

In Schiphol, Amsterdam you don't have to remove your electronics or bottles from your bag, just shove it all in one tray and you're good to go! It's so much faster than any other airport I've been to.
The funny thing is as long as you have a small kid with you - doesn't even have to be a baby, just stroller-age - you can bring anything. I'm not even talking about a sealed bottle of water - which, to me, would kind of make sense with the regulations - but all of the sudden your normal 500ml bottle with water, juice, or whatever, is fine. A thermo can with boiling hot water inside? Sure, no problem.
You can't get on bord con a nail clipper, but a bottle with 250 ml Polonium no problem.
