Me and the gang just hanging out

House is clean. Time for dinner and some relaxing time. Tomorrow and Monday are study time for the Tuesday interview. For the IT folks, it's API's and SQL this time.

Don't tell my kids, but I don't really want to get up at 7:30 on a Saturday to go and watch them play hockey. I'm tired, it's cold, wet and I'm not really having fun.

I might be getting my first new computer in 14 years later today, so I have something to look forward to.

Spent this morning redoing my resume, and have now sent two applications with cover letters. I think that will do for today. Main part was ending the procrastination and actually sending out some applications. Feeling accomplished

[โ€“] just_kitten@aussie.zone 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Good onya, that's not an easy thing to push through, but it feels so good once the initial inertia has been shoved out of the way. I need some of that energy with my chores today! Here's hoping your efforts are rewarded with a better job very soon :)

It anyone ever figures out how to explain to your cat that awake time is for playing, not sleep time, let me know.

Look at us all busy little bees today. I've managed a shower and I'm deciding whether to get dressed or not.

I have returned from the Lightscape thing. I haven't walked that far or up so many hills for... way too long. I am very sore.

Event was a nice family-friendly affair where we're shuffled through the gardens like cattle. Some of it was kinda meh but other bits had really cool effects. Pretty great food and drink options. Not as blatantly expensive as it could have been for that stuff. I was there with my sister, bro in law and niece.

Pretty pricey tickets though. A little cheaper on a weeknight.

Decided to take the kukri (further sharpened today on a silicone carbide stone) to the lemon tree for the first time as it needed pruning. Turns out to be a good fast tool for that work. Hit those little branches at 45 degrees.. straight through.

Ended up with 22kg (!) and heaps more to go :)

[โ€“] Mittens_meow@aussie.zone 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Depressing weather. Have the fire going to get the washing dry. Discovered my shower is going mouldy. What is it with grout and silicon that we havenโ€™t mould proofed it yet?

Feeling better this morning. But of a late start but that's ok. Needed the extra sleep.

World Rainforest Day

World: from Proto-Germanic *weraldi-, a compound of *wer "man" (Old English wer, still in werewolf; see virile) + *ald "age" (from PIE root *al- (2) "to grow, nourish").

Rainforest: apparently a loan-translation of German Regenwald, coined by A.F.W. Schimper for his 1898 work "Pflanzengeographie

Day: Old English dรฆg "period during which the sun is above the horizon," also "lifetime, definite time of existence," from Proto-Germanic *dages- "day" (source also of Old Saxon, Middle Dutch, Dutch dag, Old Frisian di, dei, Old High German tag, German Tag, Old Norse dagr, Gothic dags), according to Watkins, from PIE root *agh- "a day." He adds that the Germanic initial d- is "of obscure origin." But Boutkan says it is from PIE root *dhegh- "to burn" (see fever). Not considered to be related to Latin dies (which is from PIE root *dyeu- "to shine").

Australia has unique temperate rainforests in that they have the biome but not the high rainfall. Like in the Dandenongs, Macedons and the Otways.

Ow my arm. Not feeling too much from the vaccines except for the arm pain and a bit of aching. Had a mild headache last night too. Overall very mild but I'm still using it as an excuse to flop about and do nothing all day.

My package didn't arrive Friday so now I have to wait until monday. It's torture and unfair. I want my shiny new device darn it. My brain demands TREATS.

Tried out a new cafe near my place, Miniest has been bugging me about wanting to try it out for a while. Was unfortunately overpriced and a bit meh. Did some cooking, mostly homemade pizza and stuffed capsicums, which Mr P swooned over (he was drunk so it doesn't really count lol). Made an assault on Mount Washmore. Left it on the line when I should have brought it in tonight because sheer laziness.

[โ€“] Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Stuffed capsicum are the absolute best!

[โ€“] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago

Fully agree. A favorite.

Laundry all done and hanging up outside. Others have got laundry out as well so I've had to hang mine fairly close. If it doesn't dry by 4pm, I'll have to hope that it doesnt get too damp overnight and dries off fully by about 9am tomorrow.

Did the frustrating big-inertia job of wiping down all the surfaces in the bathroom, after the tile work done on Tuesday with no notice left a fine layer of dust on everything since I couldn't move anything out. The chemical smell is almost completely gone now after 4 full days, got the balcony door and study room window open to air this place out a bit. That should close that particular chapter of temporary unpleasantness.

Next thing is vacuuming and then... final big inertia job, mopping the floors. I hate to confess how long it's been, but in winter I really do let it go because I wear slippers indoors. The floor needs a mop to lift off the dust though. I'd like to freshen up the energy of this place before my RL cake day very soon. But I haaaate mopping.

Pick one, so I may judge ye

Kingston are the best. Occasionally a Monte Carlo (a bit too sweet), and the rest can wither away in the biscuit jar.

marmalade is on the boil, I have a ton of washing to do, have sewing, it will be a busy day

[โ€“] Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago (4 children)

I stand corrected. Headache is back.

Still going to clean the kitchen and maybe the bathroom if possible.

No more gym till after the interview Tuesday.

I would avoid smelly cleaning chemicals and bending over too much. But as a chronic migraine sufferer, productive slow pottering can be good.

Just got back from dinner with elder bro and younger sis in Carlton. Its true. If you've had a few drinkies, then gone out in the cold, the first drink after really knocks you around.

I'm going to Lightscape at the Botanic Gardens (https://www.lightscapeaustralia.com/city/melbourne.html) this evening.

The real question is... sativa or indica? It's a tough one.

[โ€“] just_kitten@aussie.zone 9 points 5 months ago

Excuse me I believe it's supposed to be acid at the botanic gardens

[โ€“] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago (6 children)

KFC have killed the giant snack pack, and therefore killed any interest I have in going to kfc.

[โ€“] Baku@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago (3 children)

I tried the GSP and thought it was absolutely vile. But I mostly go to Red rooster these days anyways, so I can't blame you. kafers is just too expensive these days. A $5 snack sub box from rooster is where it's at!

Going to read Jane Goodall's book this weekend! Got absolutely nothing else on and I'm very excited to sleep.

Fucker got me square on the nose about 5 seconds after posting my last comment. I keep saying โ€œwe donโ€™t hitโ€ but he just laughs. Iโ€™m raising a psychopath.
