I think they might just be trolling, the LLMs always say "As an AI language model" not program
The only thing they 'always' do is mimic human language conventions based on scraped data. It stands to reason that as a higher percentage of people talking about Chat GPT refer to it using different words, the model would take that into account when referring to itself.
The models are only trained up to 2020, they're not updated with new data but the internal prompt and moderation system are updated to reflect changes in use and moderation escapes.
Oh my God! I was ready for this to just be another instance of someone erroneously being called a bot, but instead I learned how to bait ChatGPT-based bots into outing themselves. An absolutely brilliant move. I wonder who's running the bot...
EDIT: as others here and on the linked instance have said, this may just be someone trolling.
Sweet. So now everyone has free access to ChatGPT 4?
