That's a crazy thing for him to say. The election isn't just his own little personal competition.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 62 points 4 months ago (4 children)

You didn't watch his interview?

Watch it, he's completely out of touch with reality and only cares about himself.

Not even "both sides" bullshit. trump would still cause more damage, but Biden is in no way capable of being president.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8LoAsHz-Mc

It's 20 some minutes, just American up and watch it.

There's not much time left to get the DNC to boot him, he's not leaving on his own.

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 53 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Wow an old fart falling on the spear of hubris where have I seen that before, oh yeah, RBG.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 35 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Literally every old person with a modicum of power or importance acts like this

[–] worldwidewave@lemmy.world 28 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Why did Nancy Pelosi run again (she’s currently 84)? Why did Chuck Grassley run for a term ending in 2028 (he’s currently 90)?

I’m 30 years old, and can’t wait to retire. Why won’t these dinosaurs take their millions and fuck off? They’re literally from the generation before the boomers, wtf

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 13 points 4 months ago

Their “work” and your work are not equivalent.

Their work is more similar to being on a home owner association and attending a few meetings here and there.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 50 points 4 months ago (1 children)

We're so fucked. Biden is so fucking selfish and out of fucking touch that he literally going let Trump win.

If he doesn't get his head out of his ass and Trump wins I hope he pays the consequences him and rest of his family. Because he literally will be handing America over to a fucking shit head fascist fucking all of our families.

I refuse to watch it. I've checked out at this point. He won't drop out, and he is 100% going to lose the election. I've seen this show before. Spending an hour watching the same fucking story with a different actor is a waste of time. I knew Hillary was going to lose in 2016, and I know Biden is going to lose in 2024. My state is deep blue, so there is no reason I can find to even bring myself to care about this freakshow anymore.

In reality, yeah, but it sounds like he wants to show a bit of maturity to set him apart from his opponent.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 27 points 4 months ago (5 children)

Well, I know you definitely didn't watch the interview....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8LoAsHz-Mc

Nothing in there was mature, and he said he wouldnt drop out unless "lord god" told him too. Wouldn't entertain the possibility that some people may think he's too old. Refused to believe he was losing in polls, refused to believe people had called for him to drop out, refused to answer a bunch of questions, or acknowledge there was any chance of him losing....

But then when he says he really doesn't give a fuck if trump wins after spending 4 years saying trump winning would be the end of America...

This is an example of him showing maturity and a good thing to you?!

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 29 points 4 months ago

he said he wouldnt drop out unless "lord god" told him too.

I don't think that's exactly a fair characterization. He was being given a list of one person after another with "what if X asked you to drop out?". It would be complete idiocy for him to say yes to any of that. So, he used the "lord God" expression to make it clear that his answer wasn't going to change. Whether or not he is open to dropping out, he's not going to nod in that direction publicly unless he's already decided to do it. Frankly, it was a dumb line of questioning.

So I guess it's not a big deal if Trump wins? It's not an apocalypse if he wins? This is like advising to make your own coffee while the banks get bailed out. When it comes to people voting, people should vote for Biden even if he can't string a coherent sentence because Trump is the absolute biggest threat to democracy, but when it comes to Biden stepping down, it's okay if he loses to Trump as long as he gives his best.

[–] UnaSolaEstrellaLibre@lemmy.world 133 points 4 months ago (3 children)

This isn't the mentality Democrats need right now.

This fucking party lmao

[–] Omega_Man@lemmy.world 38 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Right? I don't think Biden is able to appreciate the gravitas of this election. Like physically unable.

[–] istanbullu@lemmy.ml 13 points 4 months ago

I doubt he is able to do much of anything. It feels like watching Weekend at Bernie's.

[–] Delusional@lemmy.world 16 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Eh it's just the end of democracy and well being of Americans. As long as he gave it his all. /Shrug

This is absolutely a game to the wealthy. They win no matter what.

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 88 points 4 months ago

Well, as me and my family are torn apart and sent to re-education camps at least I'll have the comfort of knowing Joe "gave it his all".

[–] alcoholicorn@lemmy.ml 69 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

No you fucking didn't.

Giving it your all would preclude doing things that decrease the number of votes you're going to get, such as ending the rent moratorium, refusing to pack the court to protect Roe (because that would make it political lmao), trying to close the border, and facilitating a genocide.

You wanna be able to say you gave it your all? Drone strike the SCOTUS and use every means at your disposal to keep the fascists out of power.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 64 points 4 months ago (1 children)

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why he should not be the candidate. Not because he’s old or whatever. Because he does not understand that if he loses, we fucking lose democracy. Not a joke; not hyperbole. We get to have Russian-style “elections” for the foreseeable future.

He is so fucking wrapped up in his own ego and hubris that he is going to drive us straight into the fucking wall. He’s so far up his own ass about his ability to compromise that he can’t comprehend that fascist elements of the Republican Party (but I repeat myself) have no intention whatsoever of compromising or negotiating once they really get their hands on the reins of power again.

He is betraying his oath of office. He’s not meaningfully protecting and defending the constitution from threats foreign and domestic, and he hasn’t done so effectively for basically his entire term. As a historical parallel, it’s like a mashup of the US in 1859 and Germany in 1932. It’s baffling, infuriating, and horrifying, in equal measure. His head is demonstrably not in the game - and it seems he doesn’t even understand the game he’s playing (that’s not a “he’s old” quip - I’m talking about the fact that he continues to bring a deck of cards to the shitshow gunfight that is modern American politics and expects to get good results).

Fuck me, he doesn't even care about the real risk Trump poses, not only to the US, but to the world. I don't care if he's done a few good things in his time, Biden's literally going to hand the presidency back to this felonious fucking psychopathic liar.

I swear in 2016 I got blipped into an alternative dimension where eventually everything will be consumed by the langoliers

Edit: The US invented MRNA vaccines, and we get the piece of shit from The Apprentice to hold our nuclear codes, handed the baton by a senile old man asleep at the wheel.

[–] cyd@lemmy.world 42 points 4 months ago (7 children)

He's going to give it his all, but also he's going to make sure that he gets enough sleep and avoid scheduling events past 8 pm.

[–] 5C5C5C@programming.dev 39 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Unironically I absolutely believe that pacing yourself properly is the only way to actually "give it your all". Unless you want him to load up on stimulants of questionable legality, but those might actually kill him before election night.

[–] cyd@lemmy.world 24 points 4 months ago (4 children)

Yes, the campaigning equivalent of a slow shuffle is realistically what "giving his all" means for Biden at this point. The problem is his insistence that this is also better than what anyone else could possibly do.

No, I want him to make the biggest sacrifice he can make. Give up his ego and step down.

We're all going to die because another Boomer won't retire.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 32 points 4 months ago

Spoken like a person who will not have to live long under the consequences of that hubris, and whose family wealth will insulate their offspring.

I’m gonna vote for you, Biden, but your personal “peace” is a shitty umbrella the rest of us don’t get to live under.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 30 points 4 months ago

Yeah but we won’t be.

[–] frightful_hobgoblin@lemmy.ml 29 points 4 months ago (3 children)

Rich people unable to view things outside of the narrow lens of their own self-actualisation.

[–] punkideas@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago

That's self-interest, not self-actualization. Part of self-actualizing is realizing you aren't the center of the universe.

I wonder if he'll feel that way when he's put on trial on live television and sentenced to death. Or, if that doesn't happen, if he'll feel that way when millions of minorities are killed by trumps brown shirt equivalents or sent to camps to die. Course, he'll probably be dead by the time everything comes to fruition even if he doesn't get sentenced to death cause he's so old.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 26 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Goddammit. Way to really inspire confidence and the need to make the future better.

If he doesn't use his brand new immunity powers to have the military remove his opposition then he hasn't "given it his all".

And you know if Trump gets in power he's going to doing exactly that to his adversaries.

[–] rayyy@lemmy.world 25 points 4 months ago

Remember when they said Joe Biden was too old in 2020? He has a really impressive 3 1/2 year track record compared to the absolute train wreck he followed and both Democrats AND Republicans actually prefer his policies. The orange rapist/felon sucked big time.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 23 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Maybe they'll put that on his tombstone after President-for-life Trump has him executed as an "Official Act"

[–] TechNerdWizard42@lemmy.world 19 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I mean he'll be dead in a few years. The shitstorm may start in 2025 but it will take a few years before it's an issue for him.

Unless Trump has him SealTeam6'ed. You know, with immunity.

You didn't give it your all if Fuckface 45 is still fucking alive, Joe.

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 13 points 4 months ago

I'm glad Biden understands the Severity of what will happen to him and his Family if he Loses!

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 13 points 4 months ago

Fuck you Biden. You narcissistic asshole.
