Melbourne has had its face washed, and the sunshine is glorious!

I got the dirt on my new client.

Very high maintenance and will argue down to the hour for project work.

Everyone I mentioned it to yesterday gave me this look and laughed lol. And word travelled really quickly around the office.

I've had my Mum's vegetable soup since I moved out of home permanently at age 22. 28 years ago.

Today I finally made it.

Couldn't fit in the pumpkin and I know I won't get any rice in at the end but it's ok. Added some minced garlic but stuck to the recipe otherwise.

Not exciting but warm and familiar and chunky.

[–] Ntcc661@aussie.zone 7 points 4 months ago

Added bonus: my 9yo son is eating it! He can be ultra cautious with anything new. So watching him scoff it down is pretty heartwarming.

New corporate buzzword I absolutely despise - Journey

It's not a fucking journey. It's a process.

Stop trying to make boring shit appeal interesting. It's boring, but that's a how it is. Changing the label doesn't make it exciting.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 8 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I'd put that on the backburner but to shy away from jargon like that is a paradigm shift.

We could loop in and should probably table it. It is low hanging fruit but still requires a deep dive.

It might be worth circling back at a later date, to see what stakeholder uptake is like. Don’t forget it’s important to view these things through an organisational lens to ensure maximum buy-in.

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

You deserve a kick to the throat for that.

With all due respect of course.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 6 points 4 months ago

Just make it swift.

Wellbeing and mindfulness riles me up when it gets mentioned at work because it generally isn't thought of and cared for and often at odds with people's actions no matter how much they scream they're looking out for people.

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 6 points 4 months ago

Add holistic to that as well.

As much I hate those words and phrases, I hate the wankers that lap it up.

Grrrrr

You ever feel like you made a wrong turn somewhere, but now you've started on a career pathway, have a stupid fuck off hecs debt, can't afford therapy, and feel like it's too late to go back? That you're struggling with your job, don't have any real reference point as to whether it's normal, and just kinda wish you had another option?

Today was not a good day.

International shipping to Australia is so fucking expensive, even for small things. We really are at the ass end of the world.

I have a sample of Lancome moisturiser that's too rich for my skin, so I used it as hand cream since I'd run out out, and my hands feel lovely.

I looked this stuff up out of idle interest, with no intention of ever purchasing it:

It's $575. For a 60ml tub of moisturiser.

I'm horrified. Are there really people out there who pay that much just for moisturiser? When so many can barely afford food? I'm spiralling a bit. But wow.

Still radio silence from potential new company. Sent a follow up email this morning. Nothing

[–] underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

What would your made up Olympic sport be?

Mine would be: Carrying 2 six packs of beer and a phone through 4 rooms, opening and closing 2 doors along the way, turning on and off 3 light switches and placing them safely in the fridge in 15 seconds flat without incident. I've had years of training.

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 8 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Folding and organising laundry.

Starting with basics then moving on to more complex items such as suits and gowns and dresses, even onesies and oodies.

To be judged by multiple judges by speed and accuracy/precision and have a scoring system aggregated like ice skating.

Gratitude thread :)

Grateful for Stardew Valley (even though I did spend three hours playing tonight). It helps me take my mind off of bullshit thoughts.

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 8 points 4 months ago

Grateful I took the day off. It's only early but the CBF factor is high. Also grateful for nasal spray.

I hate my handbag again, it's black and very practical but it's looking uglier everyday. Time for a new one.

so I was looking at what bags people have , I would say 80% of the people around carlton have a black bag. πŸ«₯

Knocked the coffee on my desk over while on a work call, said "shit" very low as the other person was speaking but don't think they heard me. Had to frantically clean the spill up while talking as coffee was dripping onto my carpet. A fair amount went onto the carpet... I've got this carpet stain remover that I've never used before, hopefully it does the trick.

I've been lucky - I've worked from this carpeted room for years and the worse floor spill has been water.

Listening to music at work on my laptop.

Can't connect Bluetooth devices to my work laptop l so using an audio cable with my headphones. Got the cable from Amazon for like $5.

Something is fucky cause the audio crackles a bit, except I'm enjoying it somehow. Gives it an analog LP feel almost.

The bug is definitely a feature

Bloody hell, these courier please people have anger issues. I heard skidding tyre noises while I was in the shower, just chalked it up to an odd midday hoon. Whatever. Then a minute later I heard somebody absolutely pounding on the door, bloody dodgy, I didn't know who TF it was (my mind went straight to the old kid) so I got out of the shower and checked the camera, and a bloke in a high vis shirt was running away from the door. Then I get an email: "CourierPlease: we've successfully delivered your parcel"

Ran across the road, in front of a car, got beeped at by the person he ran in front of, then floored it just about the second he got in his little van. Wouldn't have even had enough time to put a seatbelt on. I suppose that's what happens when you put people on very strict quotas and treat them as glorified doordash drivers but for parcels, but it's fricking ridiculous!

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 6 points 4 months ago (5 children)

They are one of the worst courier companies that I absolutely would avoid on any given day of the week.

They have a horrible online rating for what they do to people with packages.

There's only certain couriers I use because of this otherwise it's auspost.
