They did this stunt at the Olympics opening ceremony.
Imagine Olympics float
People have played actually burning pianos (usually old, crap ones) but getting good tunes out of the instrument is not compatible with heating the strings that much, they detune and snap. I think they just used a keyboard built into an otherwise empty piano case with some gasoline.

It’s especially impressive when the indie game developer themselves make the bangers.

Toby Fox cooking a fire soundtrack and then making a game to have something to put it into

[–] Varven@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Sans boss fight theme is just chiefs kiss perfect👌

[–] deus@lemmy.world 30 points 3 months ago

ConcernedApe comes to mind. I think he has actually said that a big reason why he made his game is so people would listen to his music.

[–] Varven@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

Yeah indie game studios be making better games then multi billion dollar triple a companys

[–] prashanthvsdvn@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

I assume Mike Klubnika did the music for his games including Buckshot Roulette.

Exactly what I thought when I saw this. The Celeste soundtrack is so good - I'm not good at platform games but the music kept me going. The story was great too, but I'm not sure I would've stuck with the game if the first steps (see what I did there?) didn't have me humming along.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The story deeply resonates with me :3

And I'm also not good at precision jump and runs, it took me several hours climbing the summit, I had to assist in the core and failed utterly on farewell :(

[–] fandango@lemmy.today 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I didn't finish Farewell too - in my head, I consider that optional as it was added later and has a significant difficulty bump - the devs knew that too as they gated it.

[–] SkidFace@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

I finished it, and my goodness, the music was perfect ! Any other composer would have made me mute the song as I failed the screen 100 times for hours, but somehow Lena’s music doesn’t get annoying after looping.

Coral Crown gives me straight goosebumps often enough that its in my regular listening rotation outside of the game

[–] thearch@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 months ago

Celeste OST is one of my favorites, Lena raine absolutely cooked

Instead of burning the music to the CD, he burned the CD

Subnautica - Abandon Ship

Techtonica - almost all the tracks

doseone is the most underrated producer for indie games. His “actual” music is fucking insane, as well.

Did you, reader, play

Enter the Gungeon

Gang Beasts

Escape Academy

Disc Room

Sludge Life

Orbitalis

Super Game Jam

Heavy Bullets

The Samurai Gunn

If so, DOSEONE SOUNDTRACK!

Check out his album with the late, great Alias - Less is Orchestra. It’s absolutely incredible.

[–] manmachine@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

So basically it's Andrew Hulshult.

[–] Bougie_Birdie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I recommend Dusk to people just for the music.

I mean, the game is good too, but the soundtrack just goes so hard

[–] manmachine@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Verily. I don’t even play FPS games that much, but Dusk and Amid Evil are where it’s at music-wise.

[–] cRazi_man@lemm.ee 9 points 3 months ago

My music library is filling up with these awesome game soundtracks.

First answer to me is Chris Christodoulou, who did everything for Risk of Rain and Risk of Rain 2. The man knows how to let ambient vibes build to boss music

[–] sol6_vi@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

it's unparalleled for me - just so immensely good.

[–] Tlaloc_Temporal@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 months ago

How has nobody mentioned Chris Christodoulou (Risk of Rain), Studio Pixel (Cave Story), Ben Prunty (FTL, Into the Breach), Christopher Larkin (Hollow Knight), or Andrew Prahlow (Outer Wilds) yet‽

I'm also quite partial to Craig Barnes (Streets of Rogue) and A Shell in the Pit (Full Metal Furies & Chicory).

[–] grubbyweasel@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 months ago

Kristofer maddigan composing an entire fucking big band soundtrack for cuphead and recording it live:

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

This is basically how Ixion went. The game didn't need a soundtrack to go this hard, but it absolutely put it over the top.

[–] Mexigore@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

No mention of Firewatch so I'll be the first to say it, it caught me off gaurd how good it was.

[–] violetraven@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 months ago

Saving this post for all the awesome music recommendations

For all you Life is Strange fans out there.

One of my all time favorite OSTs for indie games would be Crosscode's OST.

All the songs that Laura Shigihara has worked on are great too.

[–] quantumdylan@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Here's one I haven't seen mentioned, nuclear throne has an amazing soundtrack. Shit I gotta go play it again now lmao
