Racist movements have room for one or two trophy minority members who can serve as proof that We’re Not Racist, be sicced like attack dogs on progressives (lots of media spots referring to the Democrats/civil-rights movement as “a plantation” and such) and in return to be feted as celebrities and handsomely rewarded. Looks like nobody told him that those positions were already full.

He probably thinks likely wrongly that shared economic interests will in the end make it more useful for him to continue supporting trump even if this isn't how he would say it or even think it to himself.
