That's just thought association, classical (pavlovian) conditioning is about a conditioned stimulus creating a learned response, not a thought, eg if you were to be shudder every time you heard 'Pavlov' because you thought of dogs.

[–] danjoubu@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Way to ruin the fun, poindexter

[–] EffortlessEffluvium@lemm.ee 5 points 2 months ago

Oh that’s just JackGreenEarth’s conditioned response

[–] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If I start to salivate in sympathetic parallel to the imagined hungry dogs, does that count?

[–] TeddE@lemmy.world 65 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Not everyone thinks of dog, there's a bit of a bell curve.

[–] metaStatic@kbin.earth 16 points 2 months ago

[–] blanketswithsmallpox@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What else do there Pavlov?

[–] ThePinkUnicorn@lemdro.id 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I thought of the VR shooter Pavlov shack first.

[–] Comment105@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago

I also thought of that one.

For anyone curious it's Counter Strike in VR, basically.

So Pavlov was sitting in a bar, having a nice cold beer. As the next person came in, the door caused a bell to ring. Pavlov panics: "Oh no! I forgot to feed the dog!"

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Pavlov is the Dr, not the dog.

[–] lettruthout@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What? Yeah, I know. A dog sitting at a bar having a beer would be a different joke. Read my joke again.

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I know, I'm trying to make the Frankenstein joke

[–] sik0fewl@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 months ago (3 children)

If you watch the movie, you'll see that the real monster is Dr Frankenstein.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

The real doctor is the monsters we met along the way.

[–] MindTraveller@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And the creature is Adam Frankenstein

[–] phar@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

SedaGIVE?!?

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Intelligence is knowing that Frankenstein was the doctor, wisdom is understanding you don't have to repeat it every time the subject is mentioned.

[–] Ironfacebuster@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Actually Frankenstein was the incense scent

[–] XPost3000@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Next you'll be telling me that Schrödinger wasn't a cat

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

How can you know if he was or if he wasn’t a cat?

[–] kungen@feddit.nu 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Frankenstein is the monster?

[–] LinusSexTips@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Wait, the princess is Zelda?!

[–] finley@lemm.ee 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

i actually think of a bell. sometimes i think of drool.

[–] Brenda_babylon@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 2 months ago

There's a dog?!

[–] Underwaterbob@lemm.ee 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

My daughter was watching Bluey the other day, and Bingo wanted some "Pavlova". I immediately thought it was some reference to them all being dogs and Pavlov.

Nope. Turns out it's actually a dessert named after a Russian ballerina that originated in either New Zealand or Australia in the early 20th century.

[–] Serpent@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I think if any Australians see you you are in deep trouble!

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I only knew of the Australian connection by reading the last continent

I always think of the VR game these days

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's not what pavlovian conditioning is though??

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Sure it is, strong association through repetition.

[–] thenextguy@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

I once read that reverse pavlovianism is the application of saliva to a dog's mouth in the attempt to ring a bell.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 6 points 2 months ago

I think of a VR-only shooter where all the kids try to climb on me because I'm usually the tallest motherfucker in the game.

[–] TheMightyCanuck@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Wife forget his name the other day..

'the Russian dude. Poblob. Polbob.. Palbob... The dog guy.' 'oh pavlov' 'yeah whatever, close enough'

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Pob Loblaw’s Dog Blog

[–] bitchkat@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I always add an 'a' to the end and wish I could buy pavlova in the USA.

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Get some eggs and go crazy

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

That's just how words work

I first heard of Pavlov from the game incredible machines, where if you dangle a banana in front of a mandrill (looks like a baboon to 6 year old me) he would run on the treadmill giving you power for your machines. So I always think of a baboon when I hear pavlov.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 2 points 2 months ago

And then I start to drool!

[–] Rageagainstbelief@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Why is my mouth watering?
