Billie Eilish is the latest high-profile entertainer to back Vice President Harris’s White House bid, urging her fans to “vote like your life depends on it.”

“We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet and our democracy,” Eilish said in a video posted on social media on Tuesday.

“We can’t let extremists control our lives, our freedoms and our future,” Eilish’s brother and longtime collaborator, Finneas O’Connell, said in the message shared with the “Lunch” singer’s more than 7 million followers on X.

“The choice is clear,” the post said.

Vote, your life depends on it*

I expect at least half the reason she publicly endorsed Harris was to seriously piss Trump and his followers off. That seems like something she'd really enjoy.

[–] BreadstickNinja@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago

If you can do a good thing for women's rights and simultaneously piss off terrible people, well, that's just a win-win situation.

I can't remember a time before the Republicunts started obsessing over him that anyone on the planet didn't hate him. It's insane seeing one of the most infamous people alive get so many dick riders.

[–] Eccitaze@yiffit.net 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There was a period of blissful ignorance circa 2006 where the only thing I knew about him was that he was rich and starred in the apprentice. Then a black man became president and the world hasn't been free of his stench ever since.

Why did I think she was British?

[–] MeekerThanBeaker@lemmy.world 76 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Because her name starts with B and ends with ish.

And she made the theme song for James Bond's No Time To Die.

[–] ThePantser@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe because it's a common British name or you have watched some Dr Who. Billie Piper was one of the early companions in the 2005 series.

[–] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You're not the only one, I'm still not sure she isn't.

[–] norimee@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

Thats why I just googled her and she's from Los Angeles apparently.

[–] niucllos@lemm.ee 7 points 2 weeks ago

It sounds like British Irish

[–] Securus777@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Okay, it wasn't just me.

[–] TheObviousSolution@lemm.ee 28 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Don't vote like your life depends on it, vote because your way of life depends on it.

I see that Dolly said some real nice things about Taylor Swift. Still don't think Dolly will endorse anybody, though.

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

God, imagine if Dolly did endorse her.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Dolly is in deep Tennessee, where the majority who visits her theme park, listens to her music, and supports her, are Christian Republicans.

She's smarter than the Dixie Chicks.

She won't endorse Harris but will likely vote for her.

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

I lived there.

I really wonder whether it would open more peoples' eyes, or get her threats of violence.

I could see a lot of both coming :(

[–] nobleshift@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Of course she will vote for the party that doesn't burn books...

[–] pixxelkick@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

She has so much more sway than The Chicks had at the time, by such a huge amount.

The Chicks were already controversial, and had always been so.

But Dolly is the fucking queen of country, people revere her.

How many Dixie Chicks lookalike competitions were you seeing right before their career nosedived?

Then Boss Ross and Fred Rogers rise from the grave briefly just to say that they both think Harris and Walz are really nice people and would do a good job.

[–] Gerudo@lemm.ee 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The Rs already came out and attacked Dolly a few months back. She probably has the mentality of just staying out of it.

It's going to be a steady stream of heavy hitters endorsing Harris until the election.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

These endorsements are important not necessarily because of who is doing them, but for the constant wave of reminders that are more high profile than usual political messages. I think the biggest fight is against complacency as we start seeing the "sweeping poll numbers" from the media near the end. Vote regardless of who you're told is winning, it won't matter until the votes are counted.
