22 years? Yeah that is disheartening.

There are several states in the South and Midwest that possession of marijuana can land you life in prison. That's potentially a 70 year sentence for a young adult.

Yet these jackasses can attempt to overthrow the US Government and install an unelected dictator and the longest sentence we've seen yet is only 22 fucking years?

Yeah it is disheartening to see the hundreds that got off with house arrest, probation, or even at best landed behind bars for only a year or so.

Can’t believe the sentencing for weed is still so strong. Like who gives a fuck, just legalize the shit already. I think that most of us can agree that alcohol has just as much of not more potential for harm than weed does and that’s legal.

[-] flipht@kbin.social 47 points 3 years ago

Not only is alcohol legal, it was made legal again after its own failed prohibition.

[-] Telorand@kbin.social 12 points 3 years ago

Yes, but have you considered that if we legalize weed, Satan might get your kids?

[-] MxM111@kbin.social 15 points 3 years ago

That’s because Jesus drank wine but did not smoke a joint.

[-] nueonetwo@lemmy.ca 17 points 3 years ago

Moses was burning that bush all night though

Groups of people who like weed being illegal; Police unions, private prison owners, beer/wine/spirit producers, pharmaceutical companies, cartels, private rehab clinics

[-] BruceTwarzen@kbin.social 4 points 3 years ago

Especially when in som part of the country it's perfectly fine. So much for the united part

Attempting a coup = not the good guy

[-] NounsAndWords@lemmy.world 122 points 3 years ago

It's framing. For the next coup. Because there will be a next one. The Nazis didn't win their first coup either.

[-] NateNate60@lemmy.ml 68 points 3 years ago

Hitler was only sentenced to 5 years in prison despite being convicted of treason. He lived in comfort and wrote his famous book there.

The 60-day, nine-month, and time-served sentences make a mockery of justice and a tragedy of history. 20 years is about right if not a bit lenient for plotting what would have gotten someone hanged, drawn, and quartered at the time of our country's founding.

[-] ImplyingImplications@lemmy.ca 14 points 3 years ago

Hitler was only sentenced to 5 years in prison despite being convicted of treason. He lived in comfort and wrote his famous book there.

Just to add on to that. He served 9 months and was released on good behaviour. A reminder he spent those 9 months writing a manifesto that promoted genocide. I hope we can learn from history.

If they think attempting a coup is being the good guy, I actually hope they become "bad guys".

Smashes a Capitol policeman with the riot shield you stole off of him. We are the good guys!

Can you imagine the timeline if she were VP?

[-] Pratai@lemmy.ca 44 points 3 years ago

It’s hard enough for me to imagine a timeline where she’s relevant.

[-] NateNate60@lemmy.ml 25 points 3 years ago

Same here. It seems she just pops up every so often, says something stupid, then disappears again into the woodwork.

[-] DigitalNirvana@lemm.ee 5 points 3 years ago

Makes me wonder who pays her to ‘pop up every so often’.

The good guys don't go to prison for attempting to overthrow the elected government

[-] theodewere@kbin.social 71 points 3 years ago

Sarah Palin has always been a fucking airhead, and fuck John McCain for legitimizing her airhead voice

[-] Fraylor@lemm.ee 20 points 3 years ago

Her greatest achievement was revitalizing Lisa Ann's porn career.

Alternative headline: Sarah Palin thinks criminals are good guys

[-] JustZ@lemmy.world 18 points 3 years ago* (last edited 3 years ago)

Only when they are white supremecists and accelerationists.

If you shoplift from a CVS, Palin wants will want your hands cut off.

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 53 points 3 years ago* (last edited 3 years ago)

Sarah Palin knows what's going on, because she reads ALL THE PAPERS! /s

Non Violent!? They were calling for the hanging/execution of several politicians, with instructions and directions to go get them! 6 people DIED!!! Those that were truly non violent, got much more lenient penalties than the 17-22 years the leaders got.

Sarah Palin is batshit insane calling these people good guys.

[-] DoctorTYVM@lemmy.world 22 points 3 years ago

She always has been. Picking her as a running mate just added to the decline of the gop

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 14 points 3 years ago* (last edited 3 years ago)

And look how they treated him at the end! As so many other things Republican, their behavior towards McCain lead by Trump was despicable.

But McCain had a shred of humanity and honor, and there is no place for that in the new GOP.

[-] IonAddis@lemmy.world 6 points 3 years ago* (last edited 3 years ago)

It says something it didn't even register on me that Palin isn't Boebert at first

Why are Republicans calling people that directly attacked and killed people in the hallowed halls of the Capital building "the good guys"?

At this point, fuck it.

You're right Sarah! You are the good guys, and there is just no point. Might as well stop trying to over throw the government and terrorizing marginalized communities. Even voting. It's a lost cause. The deep state will come after you for interfering with their plans, so just stay home. Protest the system by being quiet and not participating.

[-] idunnololz@lemmy.world 14 points 3 years ago

Stop voting sheeple. Your vote won't be counted anyways cause of the deep state. /s

[-] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 45 points 3 years ago

They can all get fucked along with you, Sarah.

Imagine thinking Sarah Palin was someone whose thoughts were worth more than the wretched air they're made of.

[-] GreenMario@lemm.ee 45 points 3 years ago

Conservative women need to keep their mouth shut and stay in the kitchen. There are bible quotes on this. Every time they speak in public the only response should be

KJV: "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

RSV: "I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent."

GNB: "I do not allow them to teach or to have authority over men; they must keep quiet."

I wanna see hundreds of replies to every tradwife politicians with these every time they speak and I wanna see reporters repeat these instead of asking questions. If they want rights and be treated with respect, ditch the religion and trad shit and join the rest of us in the future.

Chin up, gents, you'll get to smear feces on the capitol walls next time

[-] Hairyblue@kbin.social 25 points 3 years ago

Wait, The "Good Guys" were not the capital police fighting to protect Congress and the constitutional procedure taking place? The capital police who stood up to the deadly mob worked up by Trump and aimed at senators doing the work of the constitution...they were not the "Good Guys"?

Palin is wrong and not a "good guy".

[-] PoliticalAgitator@lemm.ee 12 points 3 years ago

Palin is encouraging bad people to be worse and she almost certainly knows it.

[-] stopthatgirl7@kbin.social 16 points 3 years ago

When it should be making them think, “Hey, maybe I’m not the good guy?”

[-] MelodiousFunk@kbin.social 8 points 3 years ago

"No, it's the laws that are wrong!"

[-] BruceTwarzen@kbin.social 6 points 3 years ago

But also, always obey the law and back the blue

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 9 points 3 years ago

I doubt Sarah or the people she is crying over do much thinking at all.

[-] DeathWearsANecktie@lemm.ee 9 points 3 years ago

All I remember Sarah Palin for is that one porn star who played her for a US politics xxx parody

She's a nobody

[-] mashbooq@infosec.pub 9 points 3 years ago

As her favorite book says, "Woe to those who call good, evil, and evil, good"

[-] TokenBoomer@lemmy.world 8 points 3 years ago

Banality of evil. No one thinks they’re the bad guy.
