Decades after it was dropped, a World War II American bomb has detonated in Japan.

Video shows the moment the bomb exploded at Miyazaki Airport, throwing dirt and asphalt high into the sky.

What's next?

More than 80 flights were cancelled but no one was injured, with regular service at the airport expected to resume on Thursday.

Officials said an investigation by the Self-Defense Forces and police confirmed that the explosion was caused by a 500-pound US bomb and there was no further danger. They were determining what caused its sudden detonation.

Probably the simple fact there was 80 years of degradation affecting all of the materials it was made from.
