I didn't know that the connectors automatically draw lines from box to box! For years, I'd been seeking software that could do this. The line-connecting behavior is a bit weird and unpredictable, but it's still fun!

You could also look into draw.io - for most things that people used to use LibreOffice Draw for, this might now be more convenient.

I like draw.io, but the killer feature I want is auto-layout. As soon as a flowchart gets a little complex, things get really fiddly. I wish I could hit 'auto-arrange' and it would do some approximation of a tidy layout.

Oooh, this is promising... I'll check it out, if it's what I hope it is, thank you!

Wait... can LibreOffice Draw do this?! I can't seem to find it if so. If not, do you have any ideas of programs that fan?

I'm not sure on either front- never used LibreOffice Draw. Visio does, but for me, it's not worth it.

Yeah Gramps allows you to export pretty neat graphs!

My family tree (bush, thicket) is the ongoing effort of my uncle, started roughly 30 years ago. There are nearly 130,000 individuals in it.

We are migrating his data from The Master Genealogist (TMG) to Geneweb. That is quite a long story 8)

You might like to look into Webtrees.

Geez, I can't imagine how gigantic such a tree is!

Check out Dia.

It's excellent. Auto layout. Connector types. Etc etc.

I’ve really been enjoyingMinder

It’s a mind mapping app, but should work great for a family tree

Darn, it's not on Windows nor Android. This sure looks beautiful, though, but the problem with family trees is that they need to be able to connect external boxes with their lines that are disconnected from the starting core, which is why mind maps generally don't work for them. Still, thanks for sharing!

It's great until you realize that it doesn't have some specific types of connectors you need or a way to control connectors path (you can't have connectors that go around other boxes).
