I'm going to pretend I know what this is about and go back to listening to the Ink Spots.

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

Honestly don't understand the hate ffdp gets.

If someone could clue me in that'd be nice cause like I genuinely like a lot of their original songs as well as the remakes.

I like their stuff, but I'll admit that a ton of it sounds the same. On the other hand, people almost always complain when bands go "experimental", so I consider it a somewhat good thing actually

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

Their music was pretty great back in the day, but their more recent stuff sounds like schizophrenic whinging, and their music videos make them look like maga fascists. I have done zero research on what their opinions actually are.

[–] DNU@lemmy.world 6 points 3 hours ago

I have no clue about music in general, but ffdp are pretty basic when it comes to their song structure, a lot of simple and repetitive rhythms. Add to that that they sound recorded better than live (IMO) and they're American which can lead to prejudices in the metal community and the bands easy to joke about.

"What's your favorite flavors?"

"Blue and Black!"

[–] Fox@pawb.social 5 points 5 hours ago

There's nothing more subversive than the Thin Blue Line sticker on their lifted Dodge RAM

It's strange how us older ex-metalheads are the first different generation music wise

Our parents were horrified by our taste in music. Their parents were horrified by their taste in music, their parents were horrified by their taste in music

We're the first generation that listens to our kids' music and goes

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago

That’s a testament to the tolerance of millennials. We are more open minded and will at least listen to what our kids have to say.

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 7 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

My mom likes metal now 🤷

[–] AmosBurton_ThatGuy@lemmy.ca 1 points 9 minutes ago

Same with mine. She's the reason I love Rammstein. We share music with each other a lot, it's awesome. My dads more old fashioned and likes classic rock but he'll tolerate me and my brother playing our favourite metal songs for him at least!

[–] Absolute_Axoltl@feddit.uk 28 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

It's the same though isn't it? While it's not the reason why we liked the music we liked (more punk than metal for me but same difference) it was always a bonus if your parents didn't like it. That's exactly the reaction that kids are getting from their parents now!

[–] Hugh_Jeggs@lemm.ee 7 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

It is! But I'm glad you understand what I meant!

[–] Absolute_Axoltl@feddit.uk 1 points 3 hours ago

Oh I totally did

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Well there are two areas to explore here. The quality of the music and it's message. And the parenting we endured. I became a metal head for both reasons. My parents music didn't resonate with me. The over simplified music structure just bored me. There wasn't anything epic about it. And then the message didn't resonate when it was all happy rose gardens and unicorns. My dad was an abusive asshole. Metal gave me that angry outlet.

At least my mom understands where I come from even she doesn't understand why I listen to what I listen to. She divorced him and shit changed. Now my son loves metal and his mom doesn't get it.

[–] Absolute_Axoltl@feddit.uk 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah I hear you, those experiences would no doubt stear you to something that provided an outlet. But, and I want to acknowledge that I'm not dismissing anything you endure, ultimately rebellion is what we're talking about and the eventual outlet is almost irrelevant.

I'm glad you're able to share music you like with you son.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Well I think everyone rebels in one way or another. How each kid does that is up to them.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 0 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?

[–] ziggurat@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

Don't everyone have both nymphetamine fix and the power of love in the same Playlist?

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 53 points 12 hours ago

hit me with some brutal recommendations if you got them. it's been a while and I'm out-of the loop

[–] Toofpic@feddit.dk 4 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

Specific tracks, for your convenience:
Blackbraid - The river of time flows through me
Klevertak - Blodtørst
Kanonenfieber - Sturmtrupp

[–] Philote@lemmy.ml 5 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (2 children)

Slaughter to prevail

Archspire

Igorrr

Blood incantation

All are in my heavy rotation right now, I like weird envelope pushing metal.

[–] pech@lemmy.world 1 points 34 minutes ago

https://lemmy.world/post/19492330

I've had the EP that this track comes from on repeat for a while now.

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Igorrrr are solid, definitely doing some different shit. Dunno the others.

Your list shows up perfect when I go to respond, but in normal view, Lemmy doesn't put your lines in.

[–] Philote@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 hours ago

Edited, thanks

Infant Annihilator - Decapitation Fornication

[–] Hikermick@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

Intent is awesome if you like Slayer

[–] pech@lemmy.world 5 points 8 hours ago

The most recent Cattle Decapitation album fucking shreds.

Not especially brutal, but a couple of the bands I've been listening to lately are Sabaton and The HU.

[–] bl_r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Idk what genres you like so here’s a few recommendations across a few genres. On phone so no links.

I’ve been obsessing over Hiræth lately, probably one of the best albums I have ever heard. It’s not a metal album, but it scratches that itch I have for metal, so it’s going on this list lol

  • Witching - Vernal (blackened sludge)
  • Flummox - Rephlummoxed (prog death/avant garde)
  • Mamaleek - Vida Blue (avant garde)
  • Rail Yard Ghosts - Hiræth (Blackgrass/Blackened folk punk, large band)
  • Woe - Hope Attrition (black metal/RABM)
  • Botanist - Paleobotany (Experimental Black metal)
  • An Abstract Illusion - Woe (prog death)

Some of my current favourites : Blood Incantation, Ulcerate, Worm, Civerous, The Ruins of Beverast.
