I haven't known a ton of farmers but they work when the work needs to be done. Gotta turn the onion field irrigation on at 3am, you're getting up at 3am. Maybe you'll get to nap later.

It's so inneficient in the summer to not water at 2-6am in most of the country. You either automate that shit or get out of bed well before the sun's up.

Gotta be careful about watering too early. If the leaves can’t dry you’ll get fungus on your plants. Ask me how I know. 😬

It's 90 before the sun comes up around me for slices of the summer. I don't worry much about fungus in the summer. Also do drip irrigation automated though.

even with drip irrigation you can have sprayers that cause fungus (that's what my setup is). but yeah I guess if you're above 90º before the sun comes up then that isn't too much of a problem.

Not nearly all farmers. Good luck convincing the cows to switch.

Well, I was talking about free-range cows. I just realized you could just shut them in like chickens. Depends on how humane you are, really.

Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:
