I don’t understand why it’s upsetting:

500 ÷ 2 = 250
50 ÷ 2 = 25
250 + 25 = 275
[–] recapitated@lemmy.world 8 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I think it's because people want patterns to exist even where they don't. But this one is extra sensitive. The declaration becomes even less interesting in non-base-ten systems. I'm not even sure why 225 would be intuitive to anybody. I guess that's what makes it a shit post.

I mean the top level post is just incorrect, this is a shitpost making fun of people who aren’t capable of basic calculus. I don’t wanna be like the c/whoosh gal but obviously 550/2 = 225 it’s almost ridiculous that this whole post became so big because of people thinking they know better

[–] shaserlark@sh.itjust.works 0 points 5 hours ago

I see you doing incorrect math I have to downvote

[–] independantiste@sh.itjust.works 72 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

The person who decided of this should be fired. Same for 77+33

[–] undefined@links.hackliberty.org 1 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

Why?

77 + 3 = 80
80 + 30 = 110
[–] tired_n_bored@lemmy.world 6 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

77+33 must be 100.

Proof: 7+3 = 10, so 77+33 = 100

[–] undefined@links.hackliberty.org 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Just moving the 3 over makes this obvious: 77 + 3 = 80. Taking the zero off both 80 and the remaining 30, you get 8 + 3 which is so obviously not 10, therefore not 100.

[–] tired_n_bored@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

Do you think I was serious lol

77+33=100 is an Internet joke

[–] eager_eagle@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

either that or 1010

110 is nonsense

[–] independantiste@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

Wrong it's 100

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Sniff sniff, yup this one has nuts in it.

[–] programmer_belch@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 14 hours ago

But is 250 + 25

[–] JaymesRS@literature.cafe 25 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

99 ÷ 2 = 92 though, right?

[–] Aermis@lemmy.world 19 points 13 hours ago

Found the OSRS player.

Let's double check

225 x 2

Solve for x

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 52 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Answer: X = Formerly Twitter

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 13 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

So it's value is essentially zero?

[–] elvith@feddit.org 7 points 11 hours ago

So… 22502 is the solution!

[–] LouNeko@lemmy.world 15 points 15 hours ago

Let's put 2 on the other side.

225 x 2

Now 2 wears 225 as a hat. Which means x is kinda funny.

[–] fl42v@lemmy.ml 5 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

Lefthand side is empty, "empty" is not a number, hence x is NaN as well.

Lmao I lost my shit at this

[–] cmgvd3lw@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 12 hours ago

Weird how one answer gets more upvotes

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 7 points 14 hours ago (1 children)
[–] misterdoctor@lemmy.world 38 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I think it’s because if you take the numbers individually, 225 looks like it would be half of 550 because 25 is half of 50.

But in actuality, half of 550 is 275.

[–] shaserlark@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

I don’t know where you got your doctor from mister but it certainly isn’t in mathematics. The post is making fun of people like you defying the laws of basic calculus.

Don't staunch your heavy heart. It's okay to feel things, it won't make you week. Cry if you want to it will be okay.

I finally have a reason to use my weeks of accumulated sick leave.
