For the love of Christ throw the entire fucking book at him

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 77 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Too late, damage is done, if Trump wins he's guaranteed a federal pardon.

This is why they always win, because he wasn't put in jail after the first 9000 felonies.

This is not a prosecution, this is a lawsuit for an order to desist, basically a temporary restraining order.

The potential crime would be against federal election laws, which could be either civil or criminal federal prosecutions.

[–] Bumblefumble@lemm.ee 21 points 3 days ago

To be fair, he's also breaking Pennsylvanian lottery laws which he could be prosecuted for on a state level.

[–] FilthyHands@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

Very interesting. More complicated than I realized. Thanks for the correction.

You can't pardon a State Crime

[–] Wiz@midwest.social 15 points 3 days ago

... Until the Supreme Court invents a crazy new precedent that goes against the Constitution.

He bought the book, and he’s scribbling in it with a crayon and burning pages

After a remarkably short court hearing, Elon Musk has found the presiding judge in his own case guilty of "the woke mind virus" and sentenced him to 47 years in jail. The jury watched the ruling read in Musk's own halting and strange speech, collectively shrugged their shoulders, and went home. "Well he has all that money," said Anne Sodding, one of the jurors on the case. "He must be right, I guess." Mr. Musk has declined to comment and was last seen driving his Tesla Cyber Truck the wrong way down a one way street exiting the courthouse.

Or at least a razor sharp copy of an Ayn Rand book.

Looking at that 2nd point: it's so odd that Trump's Republicans include hardcore Netanyahu-style Zionists AND unrepentant antisemites. It's like they want to cover all possible approaches to the wrong side of history.

As to the meat of the story, Legal Eagle made a video about the legality of the Musk lottery. It seems pretty clearly forbidden, but we've been down this road with rich Conservatives many times before...

[–] cyborganism@lemmy.ca 30 points 3 days ago

A fascist is a fascist.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

it’s so odd that Trump’s Republicans include hardcore Netanyahu-style Zionists AND unrepentant antisemites.

Not as odd as you think, especially if those unrepentant antisemites are also evangelicals. They believe that all the Jews have to return to Israel, by force if necessary, for Jesus to return. Plenty of others also want to force all the Jews to live in Israel because they want rigidly-enforced ethnostates. Either way, they don't like Jews, they just find them useful. In fact, the evangelicals expect them all to be thrown into Hell by Jesus when he returns.

[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And Trump’s message is support for bigotry- all bigots welcome

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Not all bigots.

You damn well better pay fealty to the white masters.

[–] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 days ago

Can't usher in the messiah and Armageddon without both.

Gotta kill lots of people first.

[–] barsquid@lemmy.world 33 points 3 days ago

If a normal person had done this crime with $20 payouts, they would be in jail by now.

Oh please. Pathetic. This is the wet lettuce slap Musk was predicting.

Queue a big song and dance about corrupt courts stifling free speech and manipulating elections. Great opportunity to splash headlines everywhere about a lottery whereby you can win $1m by voting for Trump, because he's a very rich and very successful businessman.

This whole shit show is cooked. There is no justice, honesty, or transparency. It's just idiots pissing in each others pockets all the way down.

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 62 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Just waiting for him to fail to appear and nothing be done about it.

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 39 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Penalties if found guilty range from a fine to jail time. I wonder which he'd get... 🙄

[–] ThePantser@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I would be fine with jail time

[–] SkyNTP@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 days ago

can't tell if pun intended

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

A rescheduled court date, probably :/

And probably anywhere between six months and three years from now 🙄

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Actually, in his case, I'd wager they range from NOTHING to jail time.

[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Bannon just got out of jail for ignoring a subpoena

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 54 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I'll bet my life savings that he doesn't show up, and that he doesn't do any jail time because of that.

I say this in jest, but,

Eat your heart out Martha Stewart.

[–] osaerisxero@kbin.melroy.org 21 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Normally I would agree with you, but a Philadelphia DA doesn't order Musk to appear in person without knowing what he'll do. It's warrant bait, pure and simple.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Idk, I hope you're right. I agree about what it is but I don't think we agree how it'll shake out.

I think we want the same shake out, I'm just pessimistic here.

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This dude has more money than that whole state. No fucking chance.

[–] lemonmelon@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago (2 children)
[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

What I'm trying to say here is that his budget to remain free will far exceed the states budget to try and put him in prison.

I would love to be wrong on this.

[–] in4aPenny@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

The United States GDP is £25 Trillion. Musk and his peers have £35 Trillion in offshore tax havens (as of 2016).

[–] Insig@lemmy.world 32 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ahhh, I finally understand trickle down economics.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I'd like to trickle some of my "economics" down Elon's face.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I admit, the idea of pissing on the faces of billionaires does get me a little hard...

But only if they weren't into it.

[–] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You want to throw money in his face? Weird.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Maybe not money, but it has its practical uses so maybe we could work out a trade.
