I'd say start studying the Bible so you can blend in, but actually knowing scripture is VERY uncommon among the MAGA crowd.

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Just buy a red or black hat and have a shitty cross necklace to wear under your wife-beaters to go with a Punisher skull tattoo on one arm and a "Thin Blue Line" flag on the other.

[–] Kintarian@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I have a pentagram on my left hand. I'm pretty much fucked.

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You just REALLY like the metal band Slayer.

[–] bramkaandorp@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Satanic! To the gulag.

If they actually followed Jesus' teaching in the Bible they might be decent people lol.

[–] Dr_Box@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah they basically only know the stuff they saw on veggie tales and the stuff they can use to judge other people

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Probably after the other low-hanging fruit has been "dealt with". They'll start with illegal immigrants because they're easier to pick out and have less people to stand up for them. Then they'll turn their attention somewhere else, then somewhere else, but eventually they'll get around to Atheists, because obviously they're all ungodly heathens who commit all sorts of atrocities, not at all like Church leaders and devout Christians, who can do no wrong.

[–] AreaKode@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

illegal immigrants

And that's a dog whistle for "the coloreds". Not just the illegals, but anyone who doesn't "belong". Racism and bigotry have never been more rampant in this country in my lifetime.

Racism and bigotry have never been more openly rampant in this country in my lifetime.

It'll be the LGBT groups, just like last time. Do you hear how violent the rhetoric has become about trans people? They're also a small enough and defenseless group.

But yes, it will be other groups before atheists.

[–] Lemming421@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

“First they came for the immigrants, but I did not speak up because I was not an immigrant…”

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hopefully not until Putin takes over the UK since that's where we're fleeing to.

It might not be the best country, but it is a country where the government is actively working on banning conversion therapy with cross-party and church support.

I see, you want to stop citizens from going to a country where they are a citizen.

How Trump of you. (Or, I suppose, Farage.)

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Nevermind 🤣 assumed you were a yank

I understand if you have to but;

Don't go m8. I thought about it too, Canada is where I'd go, but... Let's stay and be old dickheads about it. I don't know you irl but, let's go somewhere and get a pint, and wait for this to all blow over (cough cough explode cough). Also, someone is going to have to rebuild. I appreciate you, even if union jack Flax doesn't.

Stay. Resist. Just my two cents buddy, as a fellow "sorter by new."

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I am the parent of a queer girl. There is no way I can justify staying and risking her being taken away and put in some conversion therapy camp. Or just have to be in the closet she's never been in and never find love except in secret. In fact, due to the internet being forever, she can't even really go into the closet if she needed to.

Meanwhile, Britain is working to outlaw conversion therapy with cross-party support. It's safer for her there.

Children owe their parents nothing; they didn't ask to be born. Parents owe their child everything. I would never, ever forgive myself if we stayed when we had the option to leave and something bad happened to her because of it.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Are they actually going to send queer people to a conversion therapy camp???

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Who knows? Why take the risk?

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

What makes you think that? (Genuinely, I see both sides of america are on fire)

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

You mean apart from all the anti-queer rhetoric that has done nothing but grow and grow since 2016, culminating to the point where they were literally talking about genocide at their Conservative Political Action Conference?

https://www.hrc.org/press-releases/human-rights-campaign-extremists-at-cpac-laid-bare-hatred-at-root-of-vile-legislation-targeting-trans-people

And all the stuff in Project 2025?

https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/project-2025-is-coming-after-lgbtq-americans/

And the fact that his Director of National Intelligence is literally in a cult that preaches about how evil queer people are?

https://www.advocate.com/politics/tulsi-gabbard-nominated-intelligence-director

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_of_Identity_Foundation

Not much makes me think that at all.

But do tell me about this 'both sides of America are on fire' thing you claim to genuinely see. What is the supposed fire from the left?

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The left are like "they're going to put me in camps" and the right are like "they're eating the dawgs" like what is going on

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What is going on is that the left is seeing what the right is literally saying they are doing and expecting them to do it and the right is just believing made-up bullshit about eating pets because their leaders know they'll buy anything and their emperor has dementia.

So unless by 'both sides are on fire,' you mean that one side is seeing the threats being made and the other are listening to the crazed rantings of a man who's brain is half-liquid, sure. Otherwise I'd say the issue is that fascists have taken control of the U.S.

How do you not know this when so many other people around the world do? Do you consume a lot of media owned by News Corp. or something?

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I'm British. I don't care much for American politics. I just see other people getting riled up over it. Went out with a friend who took a photo of a digital menu in a canadian chain café and captioned it "I am looking for liberal tears". Saw a video of Kamala telling a Christian he is at the wrong rally. See people on here claiming Trump is going to put people in camps for being gay and will get rid of elections. See people trying to kill trump. See people calling Trump the Antichrist.

I think America is 'cooked'

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Saw a video of Kamala telling a Christian he is at the wrong rally.

You need to be less credulous. She was saying that to a bunch of Trump people who came to heckle her.

There's not caring for politics and then there's just believing anything without any context.

Also, did you look at any of the links I gave you that showed you evidence of what I'm talking about? Because it doesn't sound like you did.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Was "Christ is King" heckling?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Got it. You didn't look at a single link. This is willful ignorance on your part and it's disappointing, but I don't really have anything else to say when you are determined to not be informed and determined to believe the first thing you're told without checking.

Your Christian persecution complex is, however, noted.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What are you on about 😂 why are Americans always like this 😂😂😂

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

I gave you four links, all of which you ignored.

https://lemmy.world/comment/13517522

Also, this American is also British. Dual citizenships are a thing.

But, again, your idea that Christians are being attacked in a country that's over 80% Christian by a woman who herself is a Christian when running for president in a country that has never elected a non-Christian is very silly and your embrace of it shows an astounding level of, as I said, willful ignorance.

Let me know when you decided to read those links. Even one of them. Otherwise, have fun with the last word.

[–] cranakis@reddthat.com 2 points 6 days ago

I hear you and cannot fault you for doing what you feel you have to as a father. I have no dual citizenship so I'd have to start from square one. I have three children and have considered leaving. Like I said, I'd go to Canada but I am nowhere near giving up yet. I'm going to stay and be an old, Atheist, lefty, bisexual thorn in their side. They may try and take me away for any or all of that. I'm really gutted that my fellow Americans are this stupid to have landed us here. I have always flown an American flag but I took it down when I took my Harris/Walz sign down. I'm ashamed of Americans for choosing a fascist. If the gov comes for me or any of my children, they'll eat lead, come what may.

I think I will just have to resist and protest though. Trump has the power and support (unfortunately) to do his mass deportation but I believe, conversion therapy and coming after gay and trans ppl would be suicide. Hopefully they realize they don't want a national level Stonewall Riot.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I'm so sorry to hear that. I ~~pray for~~ ask darwin to evolve your recovery

[–] K1nsey6@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

We will be fine.

[–] iii@mander.xyz 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'll be fine as I have been masking most of my life.

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago

Whelp, you're caught. Masks are illegal.

[–] aLaStOr_MoOdY47@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No one is sending you anywhere. You know Trump isn't even a Christian himself, right?

[–] Kintarian@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The Gulag was a government agency in the Soviet Union that administered forced labor camps, particularly during Joseph Stalin's rule, especially in the 1930s through early 1950s. Stalin was not a Christian either. Similarly, if Putin considers you a threat, you may disappear. Trump has followed a similar approach, gathering loyalists in as many government positions as possible. He has vowed retribution against his perceived enemies, much like the forced internment camps the U.S. used for Japanese Americans during WWII. He may indeed imprison those who speak out against him, having already promised to deploy the National Guard against protesters.

[–] aLaStOr_MoOdY47@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

There is no gulag. There is no concentration camp. These are all fears you constructed for yourself. Fictional. I will not be sent anywhere for being an atheist. I refuse to leave in fear.
