A community for Cartographers with nothing left to lose.

Rules:

Don't be awful Lemmy Guidelines Still Apply.

No direct upload images This is hosted on Lemm.ee- to post images, you must use an image upload service like Imgur to post maps.

We are agents of chaos I've created this to be the alternative to the community I used to manage on the website that shalt not be named "mapporncirclejerk"

Live and let die Meme trends happen, so please don't message mods asking to take down maps that are repetitive to a bit.

Reposts Vs. Covers Not all reposts are evil- if someone posts something that has been done years ago, it serves to bring old memes to the new users. I call these meme covers. However it can be done in excess which makes it a repost and spam. Mods will determine if a post is a cover or a repost.

No impersonating mods I can't believe I had to make this rule.

No harassing mods on an appeal We can talk it out, and we will be acting in good faith when making decisions. If you disagree with a removal, you are free to message for clarification or to appeal by giving some added context.

Bans Bans will be set to a maximum of 365 days for humans, and a minimum of 365 years for bots. I believe people can change, so if you are banned for good reason, do know that it is not permanent, it is just a way to say "take time to grow and come back when you are ready".

Canada looks like a shit gun.

[–] Soleos@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

It's Legendary though and will cost you $1867 to unlock.

[–] troglodytis@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

Do you hear that, Randy? The Americans cocked the shit gun

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

I'm just happy the line on the west is so thick and dark. I'm not used to this kind of representation for the Island and I'm loving the token charity there.

Oh shit, Newfoundland left again and took NS, PEI and maybe NB with them. I didn't even notice.

[–] Ashen44@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Still in the provinces, but technically northern Canada here! There's like at least 2 or 3 other people living up here!

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 6 days ago

Wow, maybe even 3! /s

Native Tribes in Canada: "Hey can you give back the rest then?"

Canada: "Lol"

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 days ago

Canada : "holding it for the Clovis people"

[–] Sundial@lemm.ee 39 points 1 week ago (13 children)

Could have just included the Ontario part snd Vancouver Island and it would still be true lol.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Vancouver is not on Vancouver Island.

[–] pseudo@jlai.lu 1 points 6 days ago (2 children)

According to whose geography?

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

? It's just a fact. The urban agglomeration commonly known as Vancouver (any of them) is not on the large, west-coast island known as Vancouver island.

I suspect you're trolling.

[–] pseudo@jlai.lu 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I am. It is a post about truncate Canada geography after all.
However, being myself not versed in north-american geography, I've only learned today that there was such a thing as a Vancouver island.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Ah, okay, sorry. It's the one on the west end of this map. The city of 3 million called Vancouver is just across the channel on the mainland. The same English navy captain charted them both, which is where the name comes from.

The places I've heard of on the island are Victoria, Tofino and Nanaimo, but those aren't very large centers, and if you include them then you have to include all the prairie cities as well. The rest is covered in mountains, temperate rainforest and retired British expats.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Well he landed there. But he's not there now, not for a while. Nor the town: that's on the mainland (aka the Big Island with Moncton and New Denver on it) .

Fun fact: there's a Victoria Island but Victoria isn't there either, the person nor the town.

[–] pseudo@jlai.lu 1 points 6 days ago

Well he landed there.

Was Vancouver a person? I'm learning a lot about Canada in this post about not knowing Canada (^_^)

The real anarchy would be to make Canadians live anywhere BUT what's on the map

[–] LordPassionFruit@lemm.ee 3 points 6 days ago

I'm a Canadian and I would have to drive ~8 hours to end up on that map.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

IIRC one of the 19th century presidents basically campaigned on that, at least as far as the western side was concerned.

[–] prayer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago (2 children)

They're gonna have to take that ocean pearl out of my cold, dead hands.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

That's the one!

Apparently Polk never actually campaigned on it, though; it was just around the same time. It seems the British version was going down to the 42nd parallel, and the actual result of the 49th is pleasingly near the midpoint.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 1 points 6 days ago

As someone who is not living in this map, please no I like it here.

[–] 1985MustangCobra@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

it would be, no internet.

[–] granolabar@kbin.melroy.org 17 points 1 week ago (15 children)

I am sure some US hardliners see the map and wonder how is this country still independent.

These positions are not defensible from military perspective.

C'mon, it even looks like a rifle
Who would be insane enough to invade a country, that already looks like a weapon?
