News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

I couldn't care less about such a thing (it's not like I could use it with Sync for Reddit anyway) but I genuinely thought these gimmicks were already dead?

I definitely recall some redditors commenting on something like "if awards still exist I would give you one right away".

Can I transfer my awards from Reddit to Lemmy? /s

I think they reintroduced them at some point since nobody was buying premium, and their cashflow tanked.

LOL.

So people really pay for this?

I might head to the desktop to see what it is as I have never paid for gold... The only way I got it one day (and I don't even think I "enjoyed it" was because of the Alien Blue iOS client which gave away something like 4 years of Gold if I remember correctly).

The existence of whales in mobile games is fascinating by itself, of course people will pump money into awards.

I think you have to use one of the "redesigns" for it to work, or maybe it's only in the app. Not on Old Reddit anyway.

I hope I don't get crucified for saying this, but I am not fond of old reddit... Maybe because I didn't "grow" with it (my 1st Reddit experience should have been the Alien Blue app for iOS).

I don't enjoy clicking each image to get it to a comfortable view size and I miss a lot mark as read on scroll (to be honest this isn't present in any of those redesigns AFAIK).

I am aware you can pretty much improve your experience completely using browser add-ons such as RES but at the moment that I used said add-on they dropped support for Safari, so I lost track of it...

Nowadays I got back to the right path (Firefox) so I might check what it has to offer...

Taking advantage of this nonsense... What is your preferred desktop UI for Lemmy?

I think old reddit is only preferable if you prefer text posts, which is what a lot of the original redditors are nostalgic for. At least that's what I've gathered over the years. I also started on new reddit and I've never understood the issue with it (at least while running an ad blocker that is)

You can use Lemmy on a desktop and not just when you’re in the bathroom‽

[–] kamenlady@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

It depends on what you use Lemmy for.

I mean even if I look up something and find Reddit results, it uses the current mobile site version and I don't see any awards. Sometimes I'll see comments highlighted in gold as if they have an award though.
