Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

I will, but it's not exactly a big change from what I usually do. Most days I'll be biking instead, though!

Lol I looked up in Google maps my public transit options to get to work. I gave me Lyft. I live in a major metropolitan area. The problem is that the suburbs all think they can go it alone on transit and then wonder why people don't use it and then cut service. It's been 30+ years of trying to coordinate a system for the entire area. It ain't happening soon.

I prefer to bike 5 minutes to the train station rather than taking the metro one stop.

No thanks…

My local metro hub is Boston and for certain routes (and hell just in general thanks to the inconsistent service) I prefer my 3 seasons biking. I used to do 4 seasons but I have dependents now 😨

I mean I live walking distance to a train stop so will keep on doing that. Funny for Bloomberg to post this article. Seems like their readership will keep on saturating the highways with their Mercedes.

They’re also in the pockets of the ultra rich. Keep focusing on your impact on climate change, keep thinking of what you can personally change about yourself to avoid one more drop in the ocean. (Please ignore the fact that all the other quadrillions of gallons in said ocean were put there by corps, who are still reaching new records of output. It’s not on them, I mean, who’s buying their products if not you!? So still, this is definitely still about you and how responsible you are. Are you thinking about what you can change about your lifestyle yet?)

P.S. pwetty pwease make sure you keep buying though, because if you stop, he economy tanks and that’ll be on you and your community.

Preach! R.E. your P.S. I have just lost so much faith on people willing to accept anything other than a growing economy. When unrestrained, continuous economic growth becomes impossible who knows what will happen!
