The green party is, at least in my opinion, the best option we have right now. CDU are turning into literal fascists ins record time, SPD is willing to sell everything for 4 more years of power, BSW are just authoritarian populists without any good solutions and the left probably won't make it past the 5 hurdle. And in no way will be part of a coalition. Even tho that I hate how they acted in regards of immigration, but its better than the alternatives.
True. Green's are supposed to be anti-war but they still support Israel.
My biggest worry honestly is the rise of "anti-immigration" policies. Nothing wrong with controlling immigration or even stopping it completely but imo a lot of "anti-immigration" people are actually "anti-immigrants". Because it is so easy to hide your racism behind the veil of "anti-immigration".

And the only decent solution would be to build a lot more track, to meet the rise in demand from both passengers and freight. That is going to take over a decade to fix.
The main problem, as stated in the article, is not in tact infrastructure, that causes problems. Since the DB killed of a lot of tracks there are also no alternative routes for trains.
4 tracks everywhere is critical
I disagree, but I'd like to understand your reasoning.
My experience in this last year has me thinking we need fewer passenger trains, run at a slightly longer internal. Not a single train I took was on time or at full capacity, though there were a great number of options.
I guess it heavily depends on where you live. The majority of trans I took were packed, up to the point I sometimes couldnβt even enter the train and had to wait for the next one (this of course being local trains, not the long range ones).
It is also very difficult to reach your destination if it isnβt on one line. And even if it is, itβs sometimes problematic.
I also do believe that the long range trains tend to be empty due to their price. A lot of people dont use them for relations that could be reached with regional trains, simply due to cost. Even when travelling with (overly full) regional trains takes 3-4 times longer and requires 2-3 train changes.
If you are two people traveling from south to central germany you have to give two kidneys and your firstborn child for the return trip.
I guess I was speaking of my raven my experience going from Hamburg to Karlsruhe to Frankfurt. 3 cancelled trains, 1 severely delayed, 1 delayed by >20 minutes.
Passenger numbers more the doubled in the last 20years. The biggest one is regional transport, which already uses double decker trains in most cases. So to increase capacity you need to make them longer. That however requires longer platforms as well.
Also if you want to change trains, the operator is generally trying to have different trains arrive and leave at roughly the same time, so passengers do not have to wait too long. Obviously that means you need the tracks for that as well.
Another privatisation success story!
Government-owned privatisation is kind of the worst of both worlds.
For the corporate suits in the leadership of the DB (often deposed politicians), it has been a success, because they have become stinking rich from essentially leaving public property that was paid for by the taxpayer to rot, while giving themselves obscene salaries and even more obscene bonuses, all with an obscene raise every year.
It's a cleptocrat success story.

And as a talk at hacker conference some time ago showed us, this is heavily underreported, because the DB is skilled with statistics.
The next German government has to tax the rich and invest in public transport. But I bet they won't because the majority of voters can't think for themselves and will just give in to propaganda by the right wingers.
