I don't understand why you'd buy this over the first party Steam Deck

The third party options all have more powerful APUs, so you get one of those if you want higher tier performance.
I would have gotten a 3rd party device but had to opt for the steam deck because of tracpads if it has no tracpads I am not buying it because allot of my games require tracpads.
Pros: Higher res, better APU
Cons: Trackpads gone
I've never really gotten on with the trackpads although they do feel nice and tactile. I've now got a dock setup so I can switch my primary monitor across to the steam deck along with the audio and a usb switch for my keyboard and mouse. I'm finally catching up with the RTS and strategy games in my unplayed queue.
Honestly - lack of large trackpads aside (it does have a tiny one on the right side) - the Legion Go S looks like a good deal. Price should be equal to the OLED Deck for the 512 GB variant, for that you get a device with a more modern CPU architecture and 50% more GPU cores. The display is quite a bit larger (8.1" vs 7.4", which is a larger difference than it might seem), it's higher resolution 120 Hz and - most importantly - it has VRR, which the Steam Deck OLED lacks. Sure, it's not OLED and some people are seemingly allergic to higher resolution displays ("think about the battery life!!!" or "not powerful enough to play games at this res" (upscaling exists)), but 2D games like Hollow Knight or Cuphead should look amazing on this display and font rendering should be a lot better.
Also, Lenovo might sell this in countries where the Steam Deck isn't officially available.
USB 4
The primary reason why I don't currently own a Steam Deck.
A USB standard is the primary reason? Why is that?
PCIe tunneling.
And this affects you how?
Real docks (not some overgrown hub), eGPUs, random high end accessories. You can do so much more with pcie over USB 4 than plain USB 3.X. And I use that stuff all the time. Ever since I got my first taste of what Thunderbolt can do I never wanted to go back.
Ah sorry my bad. Was thinking the steam deck had usb4... Well that makes more sense now 😂
