I am using FlorisBoard. The development still seems to be active.

much thanks to @gary_host_laptop for the logo design :)
FlorisBoard was my first ever open source keyboard but at that time, it didn't have suggestions but placeholders so I uninstalled it because I need them
Yeah I'm on FUTO. I haven't found better. I'm happy with it.
Swiftkey used to be great but Microsoft is the company that wants to take screenshots of your banking info and put them on a silver platter for hackers. Dumb to use what they make when you can help it. A Microsoft keyboard is still better than, say, a facebook keyboard, but not by enough.
I'm just using open board. Works really well for what I need
My banking app doesn't open if Heliboard is set as my default keyboard.
Pain in the ass
Heliboard was showing so much promise for me, but seems development has stopped? For multi language keyboards I find it frustrating that when you hold the keys, the first symbol to show isn't the one in the corner of the key. this is especially annoying for numbers... You'd expect the key O to give you a 9 when held, as the little 9 symbol in the corner hints. But in my case it shows first an accent-O and I'd need to scroll left a few symbols to find 9.
New HeliBoard release just came out yesterday, so no, development has not stopped.
Thanks... Fdroid isn't showing the update yet but i can see it in izzydroid (i prefer to wait a couple days for fdroid though). Previous update was six months ago, so I was losing my hopes.
Heliboard has had a ton of commits in their repo the past few weeks. I'd expect a new release before too long but it has been a long time since the last one for sure. But it's definitely active.
Pretty sure I downloaded a new release via obtainium today
Typing now with heliboard and yeah, its not ideal. But I still like it best. Good luck with your hunt.
Have you tried AnySoftKeyboard?
I think it has most of the features you are looking for and I find it a bit more comfortable than Heliboard.
Last release from 2021.
I saw some recent commits so there's still hope bit I'll wait.
A bit confusing for now and no suggestion? I have to check that and yes, its on. Keyboard is dark and the styled based on app does not work
.
Very dark for no reason
Futo keyboard
I said the "problems" with it but currently using it because suggestions/correction is the best
I've resigned to just using the stock keyboard. It's terrible, and always autocorrects my "The" to "Tue" for some reason, but I can live with it. Heliboard really was underwhelming, and AnySoft had some issues not showing a normal keyboard on certain inputs.
I resigned a couple years ago to using the default aosp keyboard as well, only to find out a couple of weeks ago about heliboard. It has gesture typing and multilingual support, which I missed from gboard. autocorrect is still crap, but i'm already used to it, so for me it was an all around improvement. quite surprised to see others not liking it
