I adore my GPD Win Mini, they're the only ones putting out good pocketable clamshell devices and I adore them for it

I use the GPD pocket and its magical when flying to roll up with a laptop on a plane with a 9-inch screen. My model even has an i7 in it so it can handle some games. Only major complaints is that I had some issues getting the screen to play nice with wayland (Ive since fixed it, it was just effort) and its keyboard is an ergonimic train wreck.

As long as you're not looking for a good thumb typing experience.

Ive also been digging for a good UMPC/Palmtop for bed usage, apparently GPD can make an ok touch typing experience, but their keyboards intended for thumb typing are horrible

My 3DS XL in bed is so perfect, if I could just get a computer with a good thumb keyboard in that form factor! LMAO

their devices look so cool but they cost so much and have no power

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Have no power? They're running the same exact processors that the other manufacturers are using.

[–] unknown1234_5@kbin.earth 5 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

not the ones at a comparable price point. the ones at a comparable price are super underpowered compared to modern handhelds.

Might be worth getting one second hand just to play older games on?

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

That's fair, but they often don't have similar features. I don't think there is anything similar to the Max 2 on the market.

[–] WhatSay@slrpnk.net 36 points 17 hours ago

Yeah, it's like twice the price, plus some hardware issues and not always great repair support.

[–] Cyth@lemmy.world 26 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Pricing is definitely GPD's issue, but yes hardware issues as well. I have a Win Max 2, and it was neat at the time, but it costs way more than a Steamdeck and really isn't as powerful. When you play a game on it it runs so hot and the fans are like a jet engine. I pretty much use it as tiny laptop these days and use the Steamdeck for any real handheld gaming.

Poor usage with Windows as well. My GPD-1 got so much better when I ran Linux on it, but it wasn't easy to install it.

I didn’t know the Gotham Police Department was in the games market.
