Ironically, it's called "Filer a l'anglaise" (leaving the English way) in France
In Germany we say "den polnischen machen" - "doing the polish (exit)"

So i used to as well. Like you aren't actively participating so you think that noone will notice that you left
Then, out of nowhere, everyone is asking "Why are you leaving? Stay with us"
And you know that it's only because your presence legitimates theirs.
If you are sitting just slap your legs while saying "Well..." and doing a noise like you were a 107 yo who just got up for first time in 13 years.
I yell it, wave, and leave. I ain’t waiting around.

Me too. Not going to make something as simple as this difficult.
I want to leave, I leave. Giving others the opportunity to say goodbye is polite in my opinion. A wave to the group and a quick round of hugs if that makes sense.
At a minimum one should say goodbye to the host.

Pro tip, tell someone who isn’t talking that you are going to “start packing up” or “getting ready to leave” then you can slowly gather your coat/bag, bring your glass to the kitchen, etc. it’s stuff you would have to do anyway.

what works for me is quietly telling one person that i'm leaving, just in case anyone notices, with the understanding that i don't expect anyone to notice.
"You're really committed, right? You're one of the last ones who stayed."
"Good that you addressed me. Now I can finally announce I'm leaving. Bye!"
At my work we jokingly dismiss each other, someone will stand up and say to someone else "hey, John, you can go home now" as though they are the boss, and then that person will say to someone else "hey, Jane, you can go home" and so on. Until we are all dismissed for the day.
You inform at least one person, that's the rule. If they really want to know what happened to u they can find out.
As if my absence would be noticed if I just left without saying anything? 🤷🏻♂️
The good ole Irish goodbye has saved me on multiple occasions
