Has an accident like this ever occured before? A complete flip of an airplane? I'm surprised the injuries were so minimal considering the state that airplane is in.
Pretty sure the flip isn't unprecedented, although coming out of it with a mostly intact fuselage, no deaths, and no plane-gutting fire might be. I'd guess that the plane had already shed a fair amount of speed as part of the landing process.
Just goes to, unironically, show how safe flying usually is. If the plane you're on flips all the way on it's roof, and everyone gets out alive, and most if not all walking away.... that's pretty safe.
Iβm glad everyone survived hopefully the injured recover.

For a plane to completely go over like that, I would have to think it was significantly overspeed...
Wind gusts were 51-65 km/h during the time of the accident. That definitely had something to do with it.

I either missed this, or is has been added to the article:
Audio recording from Pearson's air traffic control tower shows that Delta Air Lines Flight 4819 was cleared to land shortly after 2 p.m. and that the tower warned the pilots of a possible air flow "bump" in the glide path from an aircraft in front of it, according to a report from The Canadian Press.
So wake turbulence could be a factor.
