I did it. Finally. My meta account is in process for deletion! (Whatever that process actually involves we'll probably never know). But I did what I could and deleted all posts, pictures, aswell as changing name and email. Hoping that at least helps a bit. Feels good to finally get rid of what has felt like a burden for a long time.

Was able to move more people than I had imagined over to Signal, some easier to move than others ofc. But it truly helps that Signal is a breeze to use and setup for folks.

Anyway I just wanted to share what feels like a good achievement with you all. Hopefully you're also able to do the same during 2025, there are many good alternatives these days!

Have a good rest of your week!

Nice, great step! Just in case: did you check if you have any forgotten "log in with facebook" linked applications? You might want to check them to see if you have configured an alternative login. If you're not sure, I very strongly advise you to undo the delete while it is still possible, and go into settings to check for this. When you're sure you're all good, you can just delete the account again.

Yeah I did, also downloaded a copy of my data. Thanks though!

As I go thorugh my 2FA codes and make sure I safely backup all the things I need to log into to important accounts, I wonder how I would explain this to someone 200 years ago.

“Yeah if I lose this code then I won’t be able to unlock this secret picture on this magic screen ever again”

The daycare my son goes to uses FB exclusively to communicate closure, parties, etc. I hate it.

[-] satans_methpipe@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Can you politely request they communicate professionally by SMS gateway or automated call? Or is this like a mom & pop unlicensed daycare?

[-] bandwidthcrisis@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

For one thing, Facebook will happily decide that you don't need to see posts from them, so it's a terrible way to communicate.

It is licensed, but also small mom and pop. It's a great daycare, and this is the only complaint I've had in two years. If I had a good solution for them, I would suggest it to them.

I semi-recently deleted a 20yo fb account. It's been over 30 days, so Yeah... it's gone.

Better late than never I guess.

congratulations! I got my Facebook deletion unconsentually, I guess there was an exploit or something because I tried to log in for the first time in over a year to look at a band and got met with a "your account will be deleted in 70 days" message with a name that isn't mine. Can't appeal without literally scanning my face so... uh.. I'm good.
