That’s quite the oxymoron

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 20 points 21 hours ago

YouTube Music Premium costs $10.99, while YouTube Premium is $13.99. It remains to be seen how much cheaper YouTube Premium Lite

Nice advert... Nice touch to not include the price.

Fucking parasites

I'm holding out for Premium Lite Pro.

[–] huquad@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 day ago

Now with ads!

Nah, you better wait. I've heard that Youtube 2 is almost out.

[–] timroerstroem@feddit.dk 9 points 1 day ago

I think that's called grayjay.

[–] LaggyKar@programming.dev 19 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Still doesn't allow background playback though, so it's useless to me

[–] Slaxis@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And that’s why I sideload a modified YouTube that includes ad blockers, sponsor segment skipping and background playback, among other things.

[–] overload@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I won't pay for YouTube almost solely because Revanced is such a better experience than YT could be. They cannot bundle in Sponsor block without an outrage.

[–] TheGalacticVoid@lemm.ee 1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I don't disagree, but Premium does let you skip over frequently skipped sections.

[–] overload@sopuli.xyz 1 points 15 hours ago

Oh I didn't know that. That admittedly changes things somewhat. Google still makes enough money from me though.

[–] AstralPath@lemmy.ca 1 points 23 hours ago

Try Grayjay. It supports background playback.

So a way to remove ads at the cost of $ and better tracking. Instead, I'll stick with piped, greyjay, ublock, etc and make it harder to track me and save the $.

Fuck Google.

I have no problem paying, just let me use my app of choice, without ads, and don't track me. If YouTube did that, I'd be a paying customer instead of a leech. I pay for Nebula and watch on Grayjay, so I do put my money where my mouth is.

I feel the battle will get harder for extractor like NewPipe. I really hope NewPipe will always work despite Google constantly changing their YouTube code.

[–] WiseWoodchuck@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I've always wondered why Google doesn't include a YouTube subscription with YouTube TV. They charge enough for it already...

[–] Sturgist@lemmy.ca 2 points 16 hours ago

Why would the actively make search worse to try and drive engagement time?

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 10 points 1 day ago

Because you haven't approached the situation with the mindset of a careless greedy fuck.

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 day ago

Because why make less money when you can make more money

[–] muntedcrocodile@lemm.ee 8 points 1 day ago

Is that like PipePipe for idiots?

[–] Yingwu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

Didn't they already have this before but removed it? At least in my country a "lite"-variant was available but they removed it like last year.

[–] TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

They've needed this for a long time.
