And it's bankrupting our people. A lot of the top ones are free or close to free.

Aren’t they socialized through taxation? Someone has to pay the doctors.

Edit: There’s no need for condescension. I was simply addressing the word “free.” I’m fully aware of how a single payer system is advantageous, and would result in far lower costs than our broken corporate system. We need to normalize the term socialized medicine in the US. We’re not asking for handouts. We’re asking to take corporate profits out of our medical system.

Who do you think covers emergency bills that are jacked up to the hilt, but the person can't pay? Our healthcare is broken.

Edit: Do you think having healthcare tied to our work is a good idea or no? They're going after medicaid, medicare and social security. What exactly are our taxes paying for then? The rich aren't paying their fair share anyway.

I believe accuracy is important, and that we need to normalize the term socialized medicine. I’m in complete agreement of the benefits to a single-payer system, as well as the need to end the corporate leeches on our medical system.

socialized medicine

Why would we use such a loaded word as socialized in front of medicine. Accuracy is obviously not important to Americans. We tell them it's free and they'll never figure out that it's already in their taxes and we're already paying for all of the people who go to the emergency room and can't pay. We're already subsidizing corporate healthcare.

Yeah, it’s through taxes but when you allow the government to moderate and review where that tax money is going, they have control right now in America nobody has control which has lead health insurance companies to jack up prices, and then hospitals think well if they’re paying for so much for the insurance I might as well raise my prices and then somebody looks around and says well I want to be competitive so that the hospitals do business with people on Medicaid and Medicare so the government increased The amount of money hospitals and clinics get for similar procedures and operations. So basically hospitals insurance and Medicaid are constantly raising the states on how much procedures take for money.

Now the cost of the government helping fund just part of the medical system in America is bigger than our department of defense bill per year

Wow, you must be really smart for figuring this out.

Did you learn this by yourself or by attending the world renowned YouTube University PragerU?

Remember when Trump said "I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters"? Luigi did it instead, and he was right.

"I am once again asking" memes are funny in a sad way because they hit on a constant. We know the problems, know how to start approaching them, and yet we keep going in a circle. What the hell, society?

Tell me again why Canada, number 32, would ever want to join the US, number 69?

I like a mutual munch as much as the next person but no. We can 69 ourselves perfectly well up here in Canada.

In fact, I think a Canadian invented 69ing.

Now that's a fun fact. (If its true)

[–] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's not. I completely made it up for comedic effect.
