I need extensions way too much to use something built from scratch, so as Firefox joins the enshittification bandwagon, what's the best Firefox-based browser I should check out?

HellFire with a custom user.js like BetterFox

Librewolf is a pretty easy choice.

Just as a warning, LibreWolf inherently messes with the browser time zone as a key aspect of its programming, so if you schedule videos for publication (for example), they'll publish at a way different time. Seeing how there was no way to easily turn off its time zone obfuscation was what reverted me to Waterfox. It can also mess with scheduled messages or timestamps in chat apps.

I like the look of this, have you used it much? I've been using a mixture of Fennec on mobile and Librewolf/Waterfox on desktop for a bit now, but some of Zen's features look pretty useful.

Definitely recommend replacing Fennec with IronFox on mobile, it's a fork of Mull, so it'll be a solid privacy upgrade!

What's the add-on situation like? I've been using Iceraven because of its extensive add-on support, way beyond Mozilla's curated list. But privacy centered it is not.

The add-on's are solid. They have an elaborate curated list, plus you can access any of the mobile extentions by just searching for em.

I've been using it for quite a while and it has almost eliminated my needs for another browser. It's pretty good

Used Waterfox for years, made the switch to Zen which has quickly become my browser of choice. Mostly because I never realize it's running. I can have, and currently do have a million tabs open and it barely affects my system. Which is nice.

It's my main browser for a while now and I really like the vertical tabs and tab unloading which saves a lot of ram compared to regular firefox. Otherwise I think the split modes and the peeking feature are nice but I don't use them that much.

Librewolf for desktop, fennec for mobile

[โ€“] Jeef@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 week ago

Currently use Librewolf. Have tried Floorp, waterfox, zen and some others but always come back to Librewolf

[โ€“] stealth_cookies@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago

Floorp is what I use and it is pretty decent.

i'm sad to see that no one has mentioned iceweasal/icecat. lol

[โ€“] nothingcorporate@lemmy.today 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What makes them (it?) good?

[โ€“] eldavi@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 week ago

i'm only half joking and half raising awareness of this project since it too is a firefox based browser.

the thing i liked about iceweasel (before it became icecat) were the nightly builds; but i switched back to firefox once they started doing that too and i don't know if icecat is still doing this.

Using Librewolf on desktop and Ironwolf (a continuation of Mull) for Android

[โ€“] Flagstaff@programming.dev 2 points 1 week ago

I've been on Waterfox for years with no problem. !waterfox@programming.dev
