The teams that finish in 1st - 6th place qualify directly for the World Cup. The team in 7th place will go to the Intercontinental Playoffs.
Argentina is the only team that has secured a spot in the World Cup so far.
It's a really forgiving format for the favourites, if more than half of the entire group qualifies. It's hard to imagine a situation in which either Brazil or Argentina bumble around consistently enough to not qualify.
