I read a news story about how Kenya is sending peace keeping troops to help with the massive gang violence in Haiti, a country that is very close the the U.S. This shocked me, as for most of my life Kenya was more likely to be a country that would be asking for peace keeping forces, rather than sending them to the other side of the globe to help out in North America.

So then I googled up their GDP and the thing is a pure hockey stick. Over the past 10-15 years Kenya's GDP has skyrocketed, literally quintupling in that time period after decades of stagnation.

So what exactly happened in Kenya recently? Is there anybody actually from Kenya who can tell us how it's changed in the past decade? They seem to be becoming a major player in the world scene.
