Summary

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker urged Democrats to protest nationwide so "Republicans cannot know a moment of peace" during a New Hampshire speech.

His call for mass mobilization drew standing applause but ignited outrage from MAGA supporters. Elon Musk called the remarks "crazy," while conservatives accused Pritzker of inciting violence and even treason.

Pritzker also criticized Democrats for political timidity, asserting “the reckoning is finally here.”

His fiery tone fueled speculation about a 2028 presidential bid as he seeks re-election in Illinois next year.

Protesting is not treason. Treason is the reason for the protests.

[-] Zachariah@lemmy.world 74 points 2 years ago

Treason is the reason for the season.

Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!

I’ve yet to receive a check from George Soros, yet Elon is running around writing checks left and right. I’d call hypocrisy, but words are wind to whiny abusers like him. Once you flout their power they have nothing but tantrums to throw.

[-] BedSharkPal@lemmy.ca 41 points 2 years ago

The thing that freaks me out is Elon called that cave diver a pedo. Well every accusation is a confession with these people...

[-] bender223@lemmy.today 20 points 2 years ago

Yeah, I'm 99.999999999% sure that all billionaires are pedos. It's just a matter of how well they hide it.

[-] Gregg@lemm.ee 14 points 2 years ago

Well yeah. Karate lessons with Ghislaine Maxwell was obv Gi optional

[-] Bob_Robertson_IX@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 2 years ago

Elon is running around writing checks left and right

Mostly right.

[-] msprout@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

My understanding is that he never actually paid out any of that money he promised to voters.

[-] Gregg@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago

Pretending to do so or actually paying people doesn’t change the fact that he’s a disingenuous, hypocritical asshole decrying anyone who disagrees with his regressive and draconian world view a “paid protester”. I’m still waiting on my Soros bucks.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 94 points 2 years ago

Why am I seeing headlines about the MAGA reaction to the thing instead of the thing itself?

[-] ijedi1234@sh.itjust.works 73 points 2 years ago
  • Media is suppressing news on protests.
  • Protests are happening by my town's City Hall, so I know they're going on.
[-] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 40 points 2 years ago

Do it J.B. I want him to do for this nation what he's done for Illinois. I'm not a fan of billionaires in general, but Pritzker has been absolutely amazing for Illinois. I could not ask for a better candidate.

[-] DrFistington@lemmy.world 24 points 2 years ago

Pritzker is basically Bernie Sanders, except he has the money to fund a fucking army in the case the real one doesn't do it's job. He's not a fake billionaire like Trump

[-] fuzzyspudkiss@midwest.social 16 points 2 years ago

I always assumed he was doing a great job because all I've heard people in rural Illinois and Indiana do is bitch about how he's ruining Illinois.

[-] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Yeah, that's always a big flag, isn't it?

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 13 points 2 years ago

yup. did not vote for him in the first primary but after one term I voted for him with enthusiasm thereafter.

[-] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 40 points 2 years ago

To be clear Musk isn't leaving, he's working from home...

... he's doing so to keep a low profile because the bad press are costing him money and influence.

THINK about it: These people are in it for money and power. When they start losing money and power, they back off.

Because that's the whole point for them, that's their game.

[-] Lenny@lemmy.zip 36 points 2 years ago

Reminder: they’re looking for a reason to enact Martial Law and ‘legally’ deploy US troops against it’s citizens. Painting what is likely to be peaceful protests as “crazies inciting violence” before they’ve even ramped up is a purposeful decision.

[-] lupusblackfur@lemmy.world 33 points 2 years ago

Ketamine Karen pitches fit on the platform he bought for this very purpose...

BFD. Let him rant.

Anyone still on Xitter to witness it is a fool. 🤷‍♂️ 🤡 🙄 🖕

[-] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 2 years ago

It always blows my mind that Pritzker seems to be consistently on the right side of history. Have we done it? Have we found the mythical 'good' billionaire? 'cuz he's done a pretty great job as governor of my state and I'll happily vote for him again if I get the chance.

[-] ijedi1234@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 years ago

He may not be perfect, though it does look like he has a strong interest in supporting the common man.

And yes, I'll definitely be voting for him again. I want to reward that kind of behavior.

[-] loie@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

*Doubt

He's a governor from Illinois. Be neither disappointed nor surprised should he find himself in prison. They've got an impressive track record for picking future felons.

PROTESTING is TREASON!

[-] lemmylommy@lemmy.world 20 points 2 years ago

A governor: take to the streets! The media: let’s report on how Trumps boss feels about it.

[-] nkat2112@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 years ago

It's responses such as these from Sieg Heiling Spare Karen and the Nazis that demonstrate how protesting is, in fact, very helpful for the people.

I've been very excited about hitting the streets and I'll carry on.

[-] AnalogNotDigital@lemmy.wtf 14 points 2 years ago

The declaration of independence literally tells the people to take apart a government that is no longer working for the people.

Not that any of the republicans in congress actually have read such documents.

[-] antisocialite@lemmy.today 14 points 2 years ago
[-] DrFistington@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Good. Now they get to use those guns like they've wanted to this whole time

[-] Guidy@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

And barring anything else this is absolutely enough for me to vote for the guy in the next election. I’m sick of do-nothing democrats being all milquetoast.

A democratic leader calling for action? Wanting more? Standing up for what’s right? Yes please, and thank you!

[-] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 10 points 2 years ago

Given how much these clowns project I'd say it's highly probable that Musk is thinking about how much of a Russian asset he is and how much treason he's personally perpetrating.

[-] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 years ago

My parents said they’ve been attending protests…I said that’s great but have you been in contact with your congress critters?…They don’t even know who their rep is…The boomers need a direct education in direct democracy, because they have been de-educated and effectively neutralized on this account.

[-] bender223@lemmy.today 6 points 2 years ago

Right wingers and MAGA cry and whine so hard 🤣

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 4 points 2 years ago

Love Pritzker.

[-] WolfmanEightySix@piefed.social 4 points 2 years ago

Id like Elon to explain why the remaeks are crazy.

[-] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Because they're true and he has no real response. Is child (and evil). Reacts as such.

[-] billiam0202@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

What's he whining about? He's not going to be impeached.

[-] Kurious84@eviltoast.org 3 points 2 years ago

Wonder if we'll ever know they were all working for Russia thanks to Epstein island.

[-] DrFistington@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Does JB have a schedule/guide for Illinois residents?

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io -5 points 2 years ago

Uh... The fuck? Do you need him to make you a sandwich too?
