Is there any news about when FSR 2 will come out? I saw this which said it was like coming closer to September 6, which was around a month ago. Are there any plans to implement FSR 3?

Pardon the silly question, but what is FSR?

It’s a technology by AMD. FidelityFX Super Resolution. Basically, it is a technology that lets you improve the performance of a game while not sacrificing too much quality.

If I remember correctly, the way it works is by running the game at lower than native resolution (say 720p instead of 1080p) and then using fancy algorithms to upscale the graphics back to native resolution. It tries to get the best of both worlds, the better performance of running at a lower resolution and the better graphics of a higher resolution.

Right, but doesn’t each game developer need to implement it into their game? It’s my understanding that the technology is released, but not yet implemented in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Ah, i didn't saw which community this was posted in, my bad.

Correct. FSR 1 can be implemented on a system level (it's done that way on SteamOS). But FSR 2 has to be implemented for each game individually.

Interestingly enough, the Steam Deck is why I ask. I’m hopeful that with FSR 2/3 I can get solid performance on it.

The game seems to be more CPU bound. FSR helps more with graphics.

But, FWIW with these settings I get more or less acceptable performance and visual quality:

  • vsync and frame rate cap off
  • in-game FSR: Ultra Quality
  • everything on low, except textures on medium with x2 anisotropic filtering
  • anti-aliasing: TAA (this resets every launch for some reason)

Interesting, I’ll have to test those settings out. Thanks!
