So it turns out that it's just the "Recommended" section, and it's actually the Microsoft flavor of React Native that spits out real ~~Windows~~ (I think C++) code, but still...yeah.

[-] Scoopta@programming.dev 15 points 1 year ago

What do you mean when you say it spits out real windows code?

[-] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago

Sorry, I think I must have had a small stroke while writing that. I think I meant C++.

[-] Scoopta@programming.dev 6 points 1 year ago

That makes so much more sense lol

[-] FiskFisk33@startrek.website 1 points 1 year ago

wait, does windows jit compile C++ ??

[-] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

You know, I thought I heard it did, but now I can't find any sources so it may just be Winforms or something.

  1. Use proprietary softwane developed for profit
  2. It's shit

Many such cases

[-] miridius@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago
  1. Use FOSS software developed by unpaid volunteers in their free time
  2. They don't have time to finish the functionality or fix the bugs
  3. It's even worse

Skill issue. Just buy a jitterbug why don't you

It would be interesting to see the annual global power consumption from design choices like this.

[-] judgyweevil@feddit.it 13 points 1 year ago

Probably negligible compared to the bundled AI tools

[-] LeninOnAPrayer@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

I'm convinced a lot of the "AI tools" in general are just the same old tool with data collection tacked onto it. I really hope some of the things I see labeled as "AI" in tech these days are not actually running some model on a GPU somewhere. I pray they aren't at least.

Oh yeah... that's just bad design

So maybe this explains why Windows takes 20 seconds to find Notepad when I search for it on the Start menu.

Sometimes it's like "Notepad? Never heard of it."

[-] dalekcaan@lemm.ee 17 points 1 year ago

Let me search Bing for "notepad," since that's definitely something you want when you're searching the start menu.

[-] noctivius@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

deserved tbh

This YouTube link at the time indicates part of the menu is. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kMJNEFHj8b8&t=276s

Of so it's the ads that are react native apps. Double gross.

[-] zqwzzle@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago

I don’t have any expertise or taken a look at it but this comment makes it so much worse: https://lemmy.ca/comment/16819736

Does this explain why the new native paint and notepad apps are so awful? I find these apps behaving like browser apps instead of a native applications. Also the right click menu sometimes paints/fills in instead of instantly appearing? How about context menus that are misplaced or impossible to read?
