They had to sell the console distribution fights to Ubisoft so at least you can look forward to that!

You need to look up what a monopoly is.

Edit: You guys can downvote me as much as you want. It's still true.

Less competition = more monopolised

[–] BlackNo1@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

mo·nop·o·ly /məˈnäpəlē/ noun 1. the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service. "his likely motive was to protect his regional monopoly on furs"

Looks like you need to look up what a monopoly is, dumbass.

[–] potato@lemmy.basedcount.com 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And yet, they'll still be in a distant third place. Dumbass.

[–] BlackNo1@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Hmm its almost like they re trying to corner a market and become a massive monopoly. Its not like their not already a massive monopoly on their without even factoring in gaming you stupid cunt.

Bobby Kotick is likely on the way out at least (probably via golden parachute).

[–] DreamySweet@lemmy.sdf.org -2 points 1 year ago

I thought they already did.

Is "gamescensor" a reputable source? Because I'm having a lot of trouble believing this line is real:

“It’s a great day for gaming around the world, and that is all I can say,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. By joining hands with Activision Blizzard, we hope to achieve our vision of enabling people to connect and play fabulous gambling games anytime, anywhere, and anyhow they like.

[–] CheezyWeezle@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I dont know why, but they completely changed the quote. https://x.com/satyanadella/status/1712816639404916947?s=20

Today is a great day for gamers everywhere. Together with Activision Blizzard, we will deliver on our vision to help people connect and play great games wherever, whenever, and however they want.

So long as you own their stuff. Since they pulled shit with Bethesda, I'm pretty certain we can see blizz stuff going from playstation. It only mentioned call of duty getting a 10 year promise. No mention of diablo or overwatch.

So you'll get to play, if you own a pc or Xbox. Microsoft can't stand the fact Sony beat them in console sales constantly.

I'm fully on the, this deal should have been blocked side. They're monopolising like a toddler hording toys so nobody else can play with them.

[–] Globulart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I may be wrong but didn't Sony consistently win the console sales battles largely because they had better exclusives?

I don't agree with this purchase, but it's seems like they're trying to get to a similar status as playstation in terms of game exclusivity.

Oh I'm not talking about the fact that MS bought Activision Blizzard. I'm talking about the specific quotes in the article. I can't imagine Nadella vocally championing gambling as a good outcome from this buyout.

Like, look in your article

ctrl-F "gambling"

By joining hands with Activision Blizzard, we hope to achieve our vision of enabling people to connect and play fabulous gambling games anytime, anywhere, and anyhow they like.

(emphasis mine)

So the CEO of Microsoft obviously has no idea about the difference between gaming and gambling. Fair enough, nobody has to care about every possible hobby. But it is a bit wild that they just took that quote and ran with it and nobody said "Hey, is it ok to slightly edit it so it is less obvious you don't know jack shit about this topic?".

[–] Pxtl@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Uh, I'ma go ahead and assume "gamecensor" isn't a legit source and we should probably be reading articles written by actually reputable organizations reporting on this merger, because there's no way that line is real and also the punctuation is so incoherent in TFA I can't tell who supposedly said it.

[–] dan1101@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Maybe the CEO skimmed some headlines about lootboxes being considered gambling. Now he thinks Call of Duty is a casino game.

[–] Lord_Logjam@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't know if I'm just being dumb and missing a joke here, but the statement doesn't say gambling.

[–] Shake747@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I thought the same but I looked again and it's in there lol, about 9th or 10th paragraph from the bottom of the article (before the "more shit you might like" section).

It doesn't even seem like it was even taken out of context from the article lol.

"We ju$t care $o much about connecting all the gamer$$$ around the world." - giant soulless corporation

[–] Lord_Logjam@feddit.uk 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The article seems to have misquoted his tweet that doesn't mention anything about gambling.

[–] uberkalden@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

That's not a misquote. That's just a lie

[–] Shake747@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

Ohhh I gotcha, I stand corrected - especially because I'm not willing to look for the tweet myself lol

[–] junezephier@lemmy.sdf.org -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

this is actually hilarious that that's part of the statement, lmao

just awful, all around

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 year ago

It's not, either the author of this article misread something or made it up entirely

[–] dan1101@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Yay, the rich get richer and the service gets poorer, because how can they possibly be expected to take care of that many customers? It would cost money and all they have is $146,000,000,000 profit for 2022.

[–] Globulart@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

You get so used to reading billion that sometimes you forget just how many 0s that is. Fuck me.
