Thankfully the west actually stepped up to support Ukraine. That may have been all the deterrence necessary.

Good for them. The best deterrence is the mainland knowing that Taiwan can put up a solid defence. If there's one thing that could destabilise Chinese society it's a large scale loss of only-sons

It's sure looking pretty damn imminent if you follow the news. "Imminent", in this case, means "within a few years", however. I hope that isn't what comes to pass, but it looks a lot like it could be. China has been engaging in a lot more militaristic posturing than usual recently.

I live in Taiwan and we are so used to the jets flying by that we don't even notice it anymore. We just live our lives. Come January, we will probably be a bit more worried about it since we will be picking a new President and Tsai is not running this time. The current VP is running and if/when he gets picked, the CCP will need to swing their tiny dicks around.
