.. and do their next AMA on lemmy.wtf instead of reddit. πŸ˜€

The current 0.18.1-rc.x which is running on lemmy.world was a huge performance improvemen, i. e. lemmy might actually be able to handle such things in the near future.

That would be nice, but we need to move way more people here for that

According to information from reddit ...

... the number of (active) users on r/guildwars2 is managable on a lemmy instance by now. This would not have been possible a few days ago, but look how smooth lemmy.world runs today.

Yea, I think Lemmy could handle that just fine. Check out these statistics: https://subredditstats.com/r/guildwars2. 60 posts and 1000 comments a day on r/guildwars2.

Yeah probably it could, and I'm sure we'd all love it since we're all here What I meant is that outside of ethic reasons, anet would default to reddit instead since the community is using that.

To have them here we would need to have the majority of the community to switch to lemmy first

Yea, but Reddit is also experimenting with visitors having to log in or use this app if you visit the page in mobile. I realise ArenaNet is not using Reddit to the same extend as they did on twitter. But who knows :D

If ArenaNet announced an AMA on Lemmy, I’m sure we would see many new users.

They will use Threads long before mastodon or lemmy, as unfortunate as that is.

You may be right there. On the other hand splitting the Twitter user base between two commercial platforms is probably still better than everyone being on Twitter.

I'm beginning to wonder, if Threads is actually going to connect to the Fediverse or rather which kind of evil restrictions Meta is planning to apply. I mean, if people who are using Mastodon could follow and interact with their friends and celebrities on Threads, there would be no reason at all to have an Instagram account and/or to use any of Zuckerberg's intrusive apps.

My guess is that Meta/Threads will only allow their users to access and interact with Federated content but not the other way which will most likely lead to most Mastodon instances deferating from Meta at once.

Looking forward to having a lot of popcorn 🍿 ...

This is what Eugen Rochko the creator of Mastodon just wrote on his blog:

What to know about Threads

[...]

Our stance

We have been advocating for interoperability between platforms for years. The biggest hurdle to users switching platforms when those platforms become exploitative is the lock-in of the social graph, the fact that switching platforms means abandoning everyone you know and who knows you. The fact that large platforms are adopting ActivityPub is not only validation of the movement towards decentralized social media, but a path forward for people locked into these platforms to switch to better providers. Which in turn, puts pressure on such platforms to provide better, less exploitative services. This is a clear victory for our cause, hopefully one of many to come.

Threads is a HARD NOPE for me.

I actually think even if they kept it two way, most people will still use Threads. It's all about ease of use and where everyone will congregate. Don't underestimate the power of technical illiteracy or general don't give a damn.

Not sure how well an AMA would work with the delay it sometimes takes to sync comments from the different fediverse instances.
