The sportsballphobia you mention having… I'd imagine some of them have emergent complexity too! I'd imagine all the football formation thingies with Xs and Os are part of it. Not an expert on any sports, but I know at least at higher levels they do involve strategy, even if they rely on high levels of athleticism. I have been watching a few videos on sports and some of them can be surprisingly accessible to people with next-to-zero knowledge of sports.

Oh yeah, for sure. I wasn't trying to deride sports, it's just something that doesn't capture my interest enough.
