Stuart Stevens has spent the majority of his decades-long career getting Republicans elected to political office. But his latest book is a warning to the country about the current state of the GOP and its threat to America’s democracy. Amna Nawas spoke with Stevens about the book titled, "The Conspiracy to End America: Five Ways My Old Party Is Driving Our Democracy to Autocracy."

As much as I welcome converts, I don’t know if I need to hear from someone who was a Republican strategist until Trump came along and said the quiet parts out loud. It’s not like Trump took the party in a new direction policy-wise.

It really is incredibly obnoxious that they all seem to grow a conscience after they’ve retired to the private sector and sold a few books.

Since the guy is biting the hand that used to feed him, I figured he must have pissed-off some high-up Republicans and gotten himself shunned. Never heard of him before this. But yeah, at this point, depending on who he crossed, maybe Orange Boy himself, he might consider himself to have nothing to lose. It would be interesting to know if, in his book, he confesses his GOP-related-work sins, explains them, and begs forgiveness of us. No hints of that in the vid.

Their worldview is centered in self-service/preservation, so of course they won’t do the right thing til they can profit off of it and pay no price
