Just tried to watch it. After an hour I turned it off cos I thought it was trying too hard and a bit pretentious.

I watched it for the first time a few months ago, without knowing much about it or how it was viewed.

I thought it was a decent experience. Not unbelievably good, somewhat better than OK.

That being said, I love isolated island settings, so maybe that tipped the scale a little bit for me.

Do you know what happened in the end?

I'd already had the ending spoiled, and after watching an hour I thought the ending was a bit obvious.

Well no wonder you didn't like it if it was spoiled for you.

It's not just that, it's the whole style of it. Just found it pretentious, and if the ending is the only thing that makes the film worth it, I don't think it's a good film

Having the ending spoiled doesn't ruin a movie. There are many movies I've watched repeatedly, because it's a well-told story. Casablanca, It Happened One Night, Goonies, Gremlins, A Christmas Story, For a Few Dollars More... And many more.

It's slow and weird at the start, but it gets really good towards the end.

it definitely tries too hard and looses its punch since it's trying to bL0w y0uR MiNd. also the dead wife scenes are really goddamn cringe. but there was something about the film I've been waiting years to talk about that was really cool.

all of the detective's interactions with the island staff are duplicitous in a way that is really chilling once you've already seen the movie once. I swear that dumpster fire is worth actually watching twice because of how

Tap for spoilerit depicts people interacting with someone they know is hallucinating and consider a menace. they're simultaneously exhausted with his bullshit and also obligated with his care and also deeply afraid of him. they're cruel at times but also clearly victimized regularly by him. it's a cutting depiction of what working in the health sector can look like in some of its worst moments, even if the movie can't help itself from trying to be dramatic.

hate it, definitely recommended. it's stupid, but good. also Leo plays a character with the exact same baggage again in Inception a year later which is funny.

I didn't think it was rated to begin with Ive only seen it when it came out and it didn't exactly set the world on fire at the time.
