Has anyone built out a self-hosted home alarm system? Something like ADT, but entirely self-hosted?

I'm wondering if this is possible with some combination of Frigate, Home Assistant, and something called Alarmo?

Or can a simple alarm system be created with just Frigate? I was thinking something simple like putting a camera inside my house when I leave. Then if any motion is detected inside of the house, activate a siren to scare potential burglars.

I have Alarmo setup in HA with a bunch of ZigBee sensors and it's brilliant. I haven't used it with cameras, but considering Frigate exposes motion sensors, I think this should work fine.

And yes, you can do this with just Frigate and a HA automation, but it would be less flexible.

Seconded, Alarmo rules. I even have HA send me video clips over Signal!

I have a Konnected pro flashed with esphome. All my wired sensors from the old alarm system work with home assistant/alarmo as well as additional ZigBee sensors. It's a fantastic set up.

I use the frigate plugin in home assistant to make my lights do certain things when persons are detected where they shouldn't be. Once you've got frigate connected to home assistant, your possibilities are endless. With a few zigbee smart switches, you could start pulling off home alone style antics if you really wanted. Think: sprinklers, lights, noises, projectors, video, etc.... just dont forget to keep the legal aspect in mind.

I also have home assistant play a sort of alarm on my denon home theater stereo if a person is detected in frigate. It gets very loud.

I haven't heard of alarmo. It sounds like it fits my use case perfectly. Checking it out.

I have this exact configuration for my home and it works great. Door/window/indoor motion sensors trigger an alarm. Frigate cameras outside ping me if the alarm is active but don't trigger it outright. I also have a panic button to trigger it. I also have it tell me what triggered the alarm and have a list of the latest events. Lastly, make sure you setup an automation to let you know when batteries die. Typically happens after a couple years.

To high jack this thread, does ubiquity also have the ability to do this?

I have Frigate with a TPU, that is connected to Home Assistant.
As soon as we leave the house (and HA detects us outside of "home") it enables recording and motion detection on Frigate.
A blueprint for frigate allows to send notification on motion detection.

It's a simple but frustrating setup to put in place (thanks to Coral USB TPU lacking proper docs / updates) but now it works nicely.

You don't need Frigate+ but you could do a 1-shot buy to get enhanced detection models (my cats are often detected as persons and triggers false warning, FG+ should help)

I mean just reprogram the alarm system to not call anybody. Believe there are integrations to home assistant for most alarm systems.
