Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Many of those distillery owners are under the impression that Canadians want and need their product, and will resume buying once the Trump regime is gone.

As though we will simply forgive and forget.

[–] El_guapazo@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago

For them, both sides were the same. Until now, no one called them on their bullshit.

[–] lennybird@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

As by design by ~~Trump~~ Putin.

Longterm destabilization by fracturing America's closest allies was an obvious goal. Still, no country can build a longterm plan knowing the US can go to shit every 4 years. The volatility is off the charts. So systemic change needs to occur to prevent this shit.

Well, well, well, it looks like we're faced with the consequences of our own actions. How dare they!

"We insulted our best customer, telling them they weren't buying enough and we were sick of their free loading and that we might confiscate their house. For some reason they're not coming to our shop anymore. Clearly they're being unreasonable."

Canadians got the spirit... wait maybe they didn't

[–] DarkDecay@lemmy.world 38 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Oh they got it alright. Just from someone other than the US

I do genuinely hope they’re enjoying all the great European and Asian spirits that us unitedstatesians are having to pay through the nose for nowadays. And I absolutely do encourage Canadians and anyone else to boycott American shit as much as possible. A lot of this is happening because our citizenry is, on average, abjectly stupid. I strongly encourage you to collectively educate us.

Ohh wow... as if people have a choice and they can actually use it!

[–] comrade_twisty@feddit.org 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yup, had the choice to continue buying New Balance shoes like I did for the past 25 years or try out European brands. Went for the latter of course.

[–] socialsecurity@piefed.social 2 points 10 months ago

And new balance were actually made in us too unlike Nike trash

Although nb caved on it I think

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 22 points 10 months ago

At least those distilleries now have the supplies to get as tanked as their revenues.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 20 points 10 months ago

Took me a minute to realize this was American alcoholic drinks, and not the cigarette brand American Spirit.

[–] MyOpinion@lemmy.today 12 points 10 months ago

Good keep it up hit MAGAts right where it hurts.

[–] crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 8 points 10 months ago

I dranked all mine. :( I can haz more?

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Good. With the amount we'll all need to drink to get through the next few years, it's better if we have more liquor available domestically.

And at least it's one of the industries where America actually makes things still. But I bet the glass bottles are all imported, so we'll need to fix that.

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Too bad domestic prices are only going up.

[–] nosuchanon@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Well, you gotta make that money back somehow. Might as well tax all the alcoholic rubes in your own country and blame it on the Democrats or the Canadians, or anyone but Trump, who is actually responsible.

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

It's not just tariffs. Tell Donald the Hutt to quit his 51st state bullshit and maybe in a generation and plenty of ass kissing, Canadians will forgive you.
