I never considered it would be a technique issue.

You are my hero, may your pillows be forever your preferred temperature

Also in between bites hold it flat or upside down instead of vertical to prevent gravity from making the ingredients droop out.

[-] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 10 months ago

With extra messy burgers, consider supporting the backside of the burger even more. Pinching the opposite end of the burger between little and ring fingers Basically like the image, but moving the fingers closer to the middle

It is not 100%, but my burger eating got infinitely better ever since I saw this image a couple of years ago. I saw the meme and thought if this one, so glad tou delivered this wisdom to others.

This is what I do, but it's not about this. The stuff exits the other side because pressure on the top and bottom from biting into it squeezes the contents. It can't go into your mouth because your teeth are in the way.

Exacerbated when the burger contains slippery stuff e.g. lots of mayo and tomato.

AOM guides are amazing

[-] Sendpicsofsandwiches@sh.itjust.works 17 points 10 months ago

This is the result of incorrect burger gripping, where the pinkies and ring fingers should also be holding the back end together, ensuring a safe dining experience

[-] hperrin@lemmy.ca 13 points 10 months ago

That’s why those little burger spikes at restaurants are so useful.

The pros just do cheese, grilled onions, and some sauce for a classic dirty burger

I'm guessing his business partner passed from congestive heart failure, burgers are probably πŸ”₯ tho.

[-] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 10 months ago

Do what you love and you don't work a single day. Because the heart attack gets you first

Hey, it's Philadelphia charlemagne Collins III, aka Phil Collins.

I like cutting my burgers in half. Gives me better control over the contents.

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 5 points 10 months ago

Thank you. I had to scroll through so many comments about disgusting holding techniques that get your hands even dirtier.

Be civilized. Cut your burger in half. You will not regret it.

[-] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Even in half, biting a copiously endowed burger still tends to spill out the opposite end. My strategy there is to bite through halfway (not completely over to the other side of the bun) and draw that bite in as this lessens the squishing action between the breading. Twist the wrist a slight bit and bite the other half to regain balance. Even then, it won't always be a tidy affair. If required, I will set that half in my hand and will not let loose of it as that allows the contents to unravel. Stay in control and just finish the half. And because you are only holding a half, the other hand is free for napkin usage, smoking, drinking, limited sign language, fries or whatever the side dish is (man/woman/potato salad). Thanks for subscribing to my burger handling newsletter. We only publish on days that don't end in "y".

Same. Much easier to eat

[-] danc4498@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Sliced avocado on anything. It must be mashed!

[-] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 7 points 10 months ago

Skill issue

Burgers should be wide, not tall, for ideal distribution of toppings. Nevermind aesthetics.

[-] rizzothesmall@sh.itjust.works 6 points 10 months ago

I tend to eat burgers with a knife and fork. Some think I'm weird, but burgers just don't fit into my mouth if I try and bite them anyway.

[-] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 5 points 10 months ago

Here, practical burger.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 points 10 months ago

You gotta put your hand on the back of the burger and just push it i to your mouth.

[-] cm0002@lemdro.id 2 points 10 months ago

😏😏😏😏😏😏

[-] snooggums@piefed.world 5 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I put my thumb slightly behind the middle on the bottom and put a little pressure on the back of the bun with my pinkie fingers so that the stuff inside has a gentle pressure towards my mouth. While some sauces might escape, the toppings and meat stay in.

Usually I see people blow out their burgers by holding the part closest to their mouth in a counter productive attempt to squish it into their mouth.

Edit: oh neat, the image posted by ThatWeirdGuy is exactly what I'm talking about!

[-] reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net 4 points 10 months ago

They should always do 3 mini burgers instead of a big one

[-] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 3 points 10 months ago

or they can make a big burger that's somewhat hollow on the inside, so the sides will stop stuff from falling out

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 10 months ago

Oooo like a little meat tray. I like this.

[-] HenriVolney@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 months ago

That's why I run away from big overstuffed burgers. In my country, people put lettuce, fresh tomatoes and raw onions in burgers like they actually are kebabs. Best burgers I know are toasted bun, patty, fried onions or grilled bacon, 1-2 pickles, and a homemade sauce. No room for escape

[-] Baguette@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 10 months ago

My homie raw onion slice does not deserve this slander

He's just a chill guy in a burger world

[-] HenriVolney@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Yo each their own I guess. Blessed your raw onion

[-] MimicJar@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Just eat from the opposite side, the burger will never see it coming.

[-] Paradachshund@lemmy.today 2 points 10 months ago

If this starts to happen, turn it around before it slides too much and start biting from the other side instead. Usually does the trick!

[-] BenLeMan@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah, that's why I'm not a burgers person. Never really got the appeal.

[-] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 10 months ago

Kids nowadays won’t believe this but you used to get burgers that held together without a skewer.

[-] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 1 points 10 months ago

Best burger in the world is an Oklahoma onion burger and they're not overstuffed!
