fell to the floor while two volunteers from the environmental advocacy group Sunrise Movement approached the senator and asked him a question about Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions. He did not respond to the question.

savage

He’d rather risk a broken bone than to answer for his bullshit.

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 11 points 10 months ago

Blows my mind that people who believe in eternal judgement think these deplorable individuals believe in god or heaven.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 49 points 10 months ago (4 children)

this guy is still alive 😠?!

[–] Aeao@lemmy.world 30 points 10 months ago

“despite the almost certain fact that he hides a fortune of indefinite magnitude somewhere about his musty and venerable abode. He is, in truth, a very strange person, believed to have been a captain of East India clipper ships in his day; so old that no one can remember when he was young, and so taciturn that few know his real name.”

Hp lovecraft: terrible old man

Will no one rid me of this tiresome turtle?

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 3 points 10 months ago

I mean clearly there is no god.

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 10 months ago

Define "alive".

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

And in the capital???

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 47 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (3 children)

Is anyone going to raise the question? Why do we have such elderly people in control of our country that them tripping is newsworthy? "40 year old tripped" wouldn't even make a footnote. "83 year old tripped" makes the headline. Maybe our leadership shouldn't be frail, brittle-boned octogenarians? Just a thought.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

Why do we have such elderly people in control of our country that them tripping is newsworthy?

Because it is easier to defend a sitting candidate than advance a new one, and the corporate oligarchs that manage our democracy prefer reliability to efficiency.

Besides, what is the House/Senate not doing that the ruling class might want them to do? They all vote exactly how they're told.

Maybe our leadership shouldn’t be frail, brittle-boned octogenarians?

So long as the paymasters are getting what they demand, who cares?

The purpose of Congress is to gatekeep the legislative process, not to look young and pretty.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Is anyone going to raise the question?

No, you're the first person to ask it. Especially here on Lemmy.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world -2 points 10 months ago

Straight up pioneering aageism. Sweet.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

Old people have all the money, so they own politicians. They want people who are pliable and know the game, so you get these rigid shitpuppets who never go away

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 34 points 10 months ago

Why won't it stay down?!

Someone must have turned him over so he wasn't flailing on his shell. You know, showing that empathy that his party despises.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 27 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Let me know when he falls straight to hell. Otherwise they'll just keep propping him up with whatever technology they can stick into his decrepit fucking body to keep it functioning. Same as they did with that piece of shit Feinstein.

We need term limits on senators and congressman. And we most definitely need an age limit.

[–] despite_velasquez@lemmy.world 25 points 10 months ago (2 children)

How have we as a society accepted policymakers that will probably not live to see the consequences of their policies

Another China win:

The age limit for a minister-level appointment is retirement at age 65, and a person older than 58 will not be viewed as an eligible candidate. Department directors have an age limit of 60. A vice premier must be under 68 when appointed and must retire by 72.

[–] Pappabosley@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Didn't they just remove limits so that Xi can serve as leader for the rest of his life?

[–] despite_velasquez@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

This doesn't contradict the statement above. Also Mitch McConnell isn't president, is he?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

With the likely changes coming in biotech, this seems very short-sighted.

[–] despite_velasquez@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Laws are not immutable, they can change to adapt to technological advancements. Currently, we're still at the mercy of declining mental faculties with age.

I'm hopefully a long way off from it, but I tell my wife pretty regularly that if I ever fall and can't get up to just leave me on the floor. Gravity will have made it's decision, I'm to be a floor-person, no sense in trying to fight it. Let me crawl.

I work in 911 dispatch, I get calls all night, every night for lift-assists, sometimes we're sending help out to the same place every night or even multiple times a night.

I don't want that for myself.

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 13 points 10 months ago

I hope the hallway is OK

[–] Aeao@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Can we get that video looped and set to yakity sax please? For the good of all mankind.

[–] return2ozma@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Here's the video. Tried posting directly but Lemmy wouldn't load it.

This is embarrassing as a nation, having cameras always on let's us see how far we are falling constantly.

[–] bcgm3@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Literally and figuratively.

He was stumbling for several steps before falling. He has some serious mental/physical decline happening.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 23 points 10 months ago

Dude's into his mid-80s. He should be ~~playing with his grandkids~~ finishing up his second decade in the Hague, not wandering the halls of the US Senate.

[–] Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 10 months ago

Just fucking die already!

[–] Lancer@sh.itjust.works 8 points 10 months ago

I can’t wait to piss on this fascist fuck’s grave.

[–] eddanja@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

The necromancy is wearing off.

[–] gnomesaiyan@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

Why do we have all these crypt keepers still in power? Just retire already!

Sadly he’s still alive.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Satan called but he resisted.

Again.
