Maybe patriotism shouldn't really be a major priority at this point in time, considering [gestures broadly]
Well, wouldn't it not even be patriotism to defend your countries mistakes? A patriot looks at their countries mistakes, acknowledges them and says we should/can do better. A nationalist is just "my country right or wrong". At least that's been my understanding on it. Granted with the purposeful misuse of language these days. Words don't mean anything any more.
Certainly, but speaking as an American, I can promise you that no one needs reinforcement lessons in patriotism at this point in time.
Those who are inclined towards patriotism and virtue will remain so when this crisis is over, if it ever ends; those who are not inclined towards patriotism can be addressed later, if there is such a need for such an attitude after this crisis (which is far from certain). But certainly, no additional weight should be added to the current hypernationalist fascist ghouls who use well-established 'patriotic' symbols, motifs, and themes to further their fascist vision.
I remain a patriot, albeit of a country I suspect may be dead. Thus I say, as an American patriot, there is no current need to beat that drum, and I would say it is contrary to the core values of American patriotism - or at least the version of it that has any value at all - to attempt to highlight or reinforce American pride in the nation at this point in time.
